This paper aims to examine a method of Korean music education to nurture convergent thinking by using music related-iconographic materials. While many methods and materials can be used for fostering convergent thinking in teaching Korean music, music iconographic materials were chosen as an example in this study. The target subject is fifth and sixth graders in elementary schools. Among many other iconographic materials, the current study focuses on Muyongchong, Welcoming Ceremonies for the Governors of Pyeongyang, and Buddhist Temple Bell of Silla. First of all, the meanings of convergence education and convergent thinking were explored and instructional stages for fostering convergent thinking were set. As for class design, ‘presentation of situations’, ‘creative design’ and ‘emotional experience,’ proposed as criteria for convergence education by the Ministry of Education and KOFAC were utilized for creating instructional stages. At each stage, teaching and learning strategies were suggested by using various teaching techniques. In the stage of presentation of situations, brainwriting technique was mainly used. In the stage of creative design, thinking-promoting techniques for fostering creativity proposed by KICE, such as algorithm activities, visual thinking, and the six colors thinking hats method, were actively utilized. In the stage of emotional experience, various hands-on activities were proposed so that learners can make new challenges with Korean music and experience a sense of success. Such application of the instructional stages and teaching techniques should be continuously studied so that they can be used to raise future-oriented creative and convergent talents who understand Korean music and utilize it creatively, breaking from the conventional simple curriculum integration. What is not covered in this paper, namely various activities of Korean music education for fostering convergent thinking and other music iconographic materials, is to be studied further in the future.

본고는 음악도상자료를 활용하여 융합적 사고 함양을 위한 국악교육 방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 융합적 사고 함양을 위한 국악교육에는 다양한 방법과 자료들이 활용될 수 있으나 하나의 방안으로 음악도상자료를 사용하였다. 이를 위해 초등학교 5~6학년을 대상으로 하였으며 음악도상자료 중 무용총, 평양감사환영도, 신라 범종을 집중적으로 다루었다. 우선 융합교육과 융합적 사고의 의미를 알아보고 융합적 사고 함양을 위한 수업 단계를 설정 하였다. 수업 설계에 있어서는 교육부와 한국과학창의재단에서 융합인재교육 학습준거로 제시한 ‘상황제시’ ‘창의적 설계’ ‘감성적 체험’을 수업단계로 활용하였다. 각 단계에서는 다양한 교수기법을 활용하여 교수학습 전략을 제시하였다. 상황제시 단계에서는 브레인라이팅 교수기법을 주로 활용하였고, 창의적 설계 단계에서는 알고리즘 활동, 비주얼씽킹, 육색사고모자 등 한국교육과정평가원에서 제시한 창의성 신장을 위한 사고 촉진기법을 적극 활용하였다. 감성적 체험 단계에서는 국악과 더불어 새로운 도전을 하고 학습자가 성공을 경험할 수 있도록 다양한 체험 활동을 제시하였다. 이러한 수업 단계 및 교육 기법의 적용이 기존에 단순 교과통합에서 벗어나 국악을 이해하고, 그것을 창의적으로 활용하는 미래 지향적인 창의융합형 인재를 양성하는 데 활용될 수 있도록 지속적으로 연구되어야 할 것이다. 이 논문에서 다루지 못한 많은 음악도상자료 뿐 아니라 융합적 사고 함양을 위한 국악교육 연구에 필요한 다양한 활동은 후일의 연구 과제로 남겨 두고자 한다.
