The essay is an attempt to searching for the world of Changeable Medicine. It is a methodological approach to the introduction of changeological thinking way into the theory of Chinese medicine. The world of Changeable Medicine stems from an issue of what are the physiological functions of human body. It aims to methodological fundamentals to understand diverse variables of physical human body and its mind rather than to concretely apply to the clinical method of Chinese medicine. To comprehend it, I attach importance to the doctrine of life-gateway. Particularly, through a changeological thinking way, I explicate the concept, category, and canon of life-gateway. It is a gateway to the original vital force of supreme ultimate in the yin-yang appearances of shui and huo being characteristic of a mode of zhong-ho in the origin of life and its activities. It results from an integral unity of the more practical level and the more metaphysical level, that is, the ultimate horizon of knowledge and wisdom in an area of Chinese medicine. This is because the ontological base of a human being is closely associated with the axiological issue of life, that is, how a human being can exhaust his own life. It is consequent that life-gateway is the embodiment of life-spirit and the site of life value in realizing the world of Changeable Medicine.

본고에서는 중의학에 역학적 사유를 도입하는 일종의 방법론으로서, 역의학의 세계를 논의하고자 한다. 여기에는 의학이 어떻게 역학적 사유방식을 거쳐서 이론적 체계를 구축하는가 하는 독특한 영역이 있다. 역의학은 처음에 인체의 생리적 기능의 실체에 접근하고자 하는 문제의식에서 시작되었다. 그러나 그것은 중의학의 임상적 방법에 구체적으로 활용되기보다는 인체의 형질과 정신의 다양한 변수를 이해하기 위한 방법론으로 자리잡았다. 역의학의 방법론이 구체적으로 적용될 수 있는 분야 중의 하나가 바로 명문학설이다. 명문은 인체에서 생명의 본원과 그 생리적 활동을 파악하는 관건이다. 명문의 세계에 접근하는 과정에서 역의학의 방법론이 활용된다. 그 방법론은 기본적으로 역학의 유비적 사유에 착안하면서도 송명이학의 형이상학적 본체론에 토대를 둔다. 생명의 연원은 명문으로, 그 생리적 기능은 수와 화의 관계로 비유된다. 명문이 태극의 본체에 해당한다면, 수와 화는 음과 양의 분화에 해당되며 그 기제는 체와 용의 상관성처럼 중화의 방식으로 발현된다. 명문의 체계를 확립하는 문제는 인체의 구조와 생리적 기능을 이해하는 방법과 밀접하게 연관된다. 따라서 명문학설은 장상이론의 토대로서, 생명가치의 소재가 어디에 있으며 생명정신을 어떻게 구현하는지의 문제로 귀착되는 것이다.
