Police officers have a structure that is easily exposed to mental trauma unlike other public officials because of their personal, organizational and social specificity. The frequent exposure to mental trauma leads to suicidal thoughts and the thought of suicide can lead to suicidal behavior. Therefore, the enhancement of the psychological support system of police officers is the key to coping with suicide by police officers. Analysis of suicide cases and cases of police officers shows that typical suicide types of police officers are psychological factors such as accumulation of stress due to heavy work, psychological pressure due to unreasonable inspection, and depression. In this paper, we suggest the following remedies based on the causes of the suicide of police officers. First, it is improvement of police culture. Second, improvement of business method. Third, the development and implementation of a suicide prevention education program for police officers. Fourth, the increase of suicide prevention personnel and budget expansion. Fifth, it is the activation of the construction of the police officer workplace council. In this paper, the suicide cases of police officers are increasing, and they are discussed at a very appropriate point in time. We hope that this paper will help to prevent the suicide prevention of police officers.

경찰공무원은 개인적․조직적․사회적 특수성으로 인해 다른 일반 공무원들과 달리 정신적인 외상에 쉽게 노출될 수 밖에 없는 구조를 갖고 있다. 잦은 정신적 외상의 노출은 자살 생각을 유발하고 이러한 자살 생각은 자살 행동으로 이어질 수 있다는 점에서 경찰공무원의 심리적 지원 체계의 고도화는 경찰공무원 자살 예방 대책의 핵 심이라 할 것이다. 경찰공무원의 원인별 자살 현황과 자살 사례를 분석해 보면, 경찰공무원의 대표 적인 자살 유형은 과중한 업무로 인한 스트레스의 누적, 무리한 감찰조사 등으로 인 한 심리적 압박, 우울증 등 정신질환 요소로 볼 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 경 찰공무원의 자살에 영향을 크게 미치는 위의 원인에 따라 다음과 같은 개선방안을 제시하였다. 첫째, 경찰 조직 문화의 개선이다. 둘째, 청문 기능의 치안성과 지표 변경 및 업무방식의 개선이다. 셋째, 경찰 특화 자살예방교육 프로그램의 개발 및 실행이다. 넷째, 자살 예방 담당 인력의 증원 및 예산 확대이다. 다섯째, 경찰공무 원 직장협의회 구성의 활성화이다. 본 논문은 경찰공무원의 자살 사례가 현저히 증 가하고 있는 현실에 비추어 볼 때, 매우 적절한 시점에 논의되어 그 가치가 높다고 할 수 있다. 모쪼록 본 논문이 경찰청의 자살 예방 대책을 추진하고 마련하는데 미 력한 도움이 되기를 기대한다.
