Depression can lead to our self-destructive life by causing impairment of social and psychological function. In particular, it is very meaningful to find out the cause of their depression because the depression of the middle and old age group is higher than that of other groups. In this study, 8,155 middle and old age the Korean Welfare Panel Survey(2015) were selected to confirm relationship between socioeconomic deprivation experience and depression. As a result of this study, the more socioeconomic deprivation experiences, the higher the depression and the greater the experience of socioeconomic deprivation experiences, the greater the family conflict. In addition, the greater the family conflict, the higher the depression, and it was found that the family conflict played a mediating role in the relationship between depression and socioeconomic deprivation experiences. Middle-aged and elderly people is likely to emerge as a new social risk factor in the near future. Therefore, various policies to enhance their mental health should be comprehensively implemented. In particular, the establishment of diverse social security networks that can reduce socioeconomic deprivation experiences of middle-aged and elderly people should be urgently constructed around the local community.

우울은 자신의 심리적 기능뿐만 아니라 사회적 기능의 손상을 초래하여 자기 파괴적 삶으로 이어질 가능성이 크다. 특히 50대 이상 중·노년층의 우울이 다른 연령층에 비해 매우 높은 현실에서 그들의 우울 원인을 찾아보는 것은 매우 의미 있는 연구이다. 본 연구에서는 한국복지패널조사(Korean Welfare Panel Study) 10차년도 자료(2015년도 기준)를 활용하여 50대 이상 중･노년층 가구원 8,155명을 대상으로 사회경제적 박탈 경험이 우울에 미치는 영향과 함께 사회경제적 박탈 경험과 우울 간에 가족갈등의 매개효과를 확인하고자 하였다. 본 연구 결과 사회경제적 박탈 경험이 많을수록 우울은 높았으며, 사회경제적 박탈 경험이 많을수록 가족갈등은 크게 나타났다. 또한 가족갈등이 클수록 우울은 높았으며, 사회경제적 박탈 경험과 우울과의 관계에서 가족갈등은 매개역할을 하고 있다는 것이 규명되었다. 중·노년층은 현재의 인구구조로 볼 때 머지않아 신 사회위험 요인으로 등장할 가능성이 크기 때문에 이들의 정신건강을 증진시킬 수 있는 다양한 정책들이 종합적으로 시행되어야 할 것이다. 특히 중·노년층의사회경제적 박탈 경험을 감소시킬 수 있는 다양한 사회적 안정망 구축이 지역사회를 중심으로 시급히 구축되어야 한다.
