The purpose of this study is to investigation multicultural knowledge from the viewpoint of knowledge concept recognized by college students, focusing on mentor experiences of university students participating in multicultural mentoring. For the multicultural society citizens, understanding multicultural knowledge is important because it is based on the universal morals of society. Knowledge is knowing, experience, feelings and emotions, and is more than just learning. And Knowledge changes are influenced by the shared environment. Therefore, knowledge is developed and changed by the experiences of multicultural society members, it is a knowledge that meets the values of a multicultural society. This study examined the knowledge of multicultural society through experience of multicultural mentoring activities of college students. According to the results of the research, the research participants were able to recognize cultural diversity in relation to multicultural student mentees, and contributed to the activation of mentoring activities through the formation of empathy and communication. They also showed a mature attitude of mutual recognition and respect for others and efforts to coexist with other cultures. In addition, they tried to improve their social communication skills and problem solving ability. The researchers were developing their background knowledge into multicultural knowledge, as a whole. Multicultural knowledge should be developed and spread to citizenship that conforms to the notions and norms of multicultural society through citizen's self-criticism and social reflection. Through this study, what we can see is a multicultural citizen who have multicultural knowledge. Multicultural citizens should try that recognize cultural diversity for coexist with others, to understand and respect other people through mutual cultural communication and empathy.

이 연구의 목적은 다문화 멘토링에 참여한 대학생 멘토의 경험을 중심으로 그들이 인식하고 있는 다문화지식을 지식의 개념적 측면에서 고찰하는 데 있다. 다문화지식이 사회의 보편적 윤리에 기초한다는 전제 아래 다문화지식을 이해하는 것은 다문화사회의 시민들에게 중요한 일이다. 지식이란 단순한 학습을 넘어, 앎이며 경험이고, 느낌이나 감정이다. 또한 지식은 공유되는 환경의 영향을 받아 변화한다. 따라서 다문화사회 구성원의 경험에 의해 변화ㆍ발전된 지식은 다문화사회의 가치에 부합하는 지식이 된다. 이 연구에서는 다문화사회에 부합하는 지식을 대학생 다문화 멘토링 활동 경험에서 찾고자 하였다. 연구 결과, 연구참여자들은 다문화학생 멘티와의 관계에서 문화다양성을 인지할 수 있었으며, 공감과 소통에 의한 관계형성으로 멘토링 활동의 활성화에 기여하고 있었다. 그리고 그들은 상호 인정, 타자의 존중과 배려 타문화와의 공존을 위해 노력하는 성숙된 태도를 보이고 있으며, 멘티의 사회적 소통을 돕고, 문제해결능력을 향상시키기 위해 고민하고 있었다. 연구참여자들은 전반적으로 자신이 지닌 배경지식을 다문화지식으로 발전시키고 있었다. 다문화지식은 시민들의 자기비판과 사회적 성찰을 통하여 다문화사회의 관념 및 규범에 어울리는 시민성으로 발전, 확산되어야 한다. 이 연구를 통해 우리가 알 수 있는 것은 다문화지식을 지닌 다문화시민의 모습이다. 다문화시민은 타자와의 공존을 위해 문화다양성을 인식하고, 상호 문화 간의 소통과 공감으로 타자에 대한 이해와 존중하도록 노력해야 할 것이다.
