This paper attempts to clarify the basis and scope of the methodology in Maurice Blondel’s philosophy. According to Blondel, human salvation can be obtained only in a supernatural life, not in a natural life. Human beings can only come to themselves when they are based on the absolute Other. This tells us that Blondel deals with religious matters. But he wanted to be essentially a philosopher as he did not deal with the problem of life, presupposing the position of an established religion. To say that man can be liberated only through supernatural gifts and to say that supernatural gifts are actually provided is another matter. Blondel forbids the second argument through philosophical methods. To say that supernatural gifts have been practically given for the salvation of man is to presuppose faith in revelatory religion out of the realm of reason. This paper examines the complex relationship between philosophical methodology and revelatory religion.

본 논문은 모리스 블롱델의 철학에서 방법론의 근거와 범위를규명하고자 한다. 블롱델에 따르면 인간의 구원은 자연적 삶이 아닌 초자연적 삶에서 획득될 수 있다. 인간은 절대적 타자에게 의거할 때 비로소 자기 자신에게 이를 수 있는 것이다. 이런 점은 블롱델이 종교적 문제를 다루고 있다는 것을 말해준다. 그러나 그는 기성 종교의 입장을 전제하면서 삶의 문제를 다루지 않는다는 점에서 본질적으로 철학자이기를 원했다. 인간이 초자연적 선물을 통해서만 해방될 수 있다고 말하는 것과 초자연적 선물이 실제로 제공되었다고 말하는 것은 다른 차원의 문제이다. 블롱델은 철학적방법을 통해 두 번째 주장을 금지한다. 인간의 구원을 위해 초자연적 선물이 실질적으로 주어졌다고 말하는 것은 이미 이성의 영역을 벗어나 계시종교에 대한 신앙을 전제하는 것이다. 본 논문은 철학적 방법론과 계시종교의 복합적 관계를 규명한다.
