I want to discuss two Foucauldian themes in this paper. First, I will examine the question of eros in Foucault’s thought according to his concept of subjectivation. After the publication of his Collège de France lectures since 1996, we came to realize that there is an explicit continuity between his theory of power and his later ethical problematics. Especially, the concepts of government and of counter-conduct play a key role in this transition. I will try to show that the question of eros in Foucault should be understood on the problematics of subjectivation. Second, I will critically reappraise Foucault’s theory of subjectivation from the viewpoint of ‘democracy of ul(乙)’. I think that his theory cast a new light on the relations between kab and ul in suggesting new definitions of power and of domination: that is, in distinction of the former as the strategic games between free agents, the latter as the asymmetrical relations represents the kab(甲)-ul relationship. However, Foucault did not explain the reason of why the power relations are transformed into the state of domination(kab-ul relations), and, moreover how to understand the ‘ul of ul’ like sexual minorities, refugees orthe disable persons etc. who are excluded even the kab-ul relationship.

이 글에서 다루고자 하는 주제는 크게 두 가지다. 첫째, 푸코 사상에서 에로스의 문제를 통치와 주체화의 개념에 입각하여 살펴보는 것이다. 지난 1996년부터 콜레주 드 프랑스 강의록이 출간되면서 푸코의 권력론과 그의 윤리적 주체화 이론 사이에는 비일관성이나 단절이 존재하기보다는 연속성이 존재한다는 것이 뚜렷이 드러나게 되었다. 또한 여기에서 핵심적인 개념이 통치성 내지 통치및 품행인도 내지 대항품행 개념이라는 점 역시 분명하게 밝혀지고 있다. 이 글은 통치 및 대항품행 개념에 입각하여 푸코에게서에로스의 핵심은 주체화의 문제라는 것을 보여주고자 한다. 둘째, 우리는 ‘을의 민주주의’라는 관점에 따라 푸코의 이론을 비판적으로 평가해보려고 한다. 푸코의 이론은 권력 관계를 행위자들 사이의 자유로운 게임으로 규정하고 지배를 비대칭적인 관계로 제시함으로써 갑과 을의 관계를 새로운 시각에서 이해할 수 있게 해준다. 하지만 푸코는 권력 관계가 지배의 상태로 변형되는 이유는 무엇인지 제대로 설명하지 않는다. 더 나아가 갑과 을의 비대칭적 지배관계에서도 배제되어 있는 약소자들, 곧 ‘을의 을’의 문제를 어떻게이해해야 할지 충분히 해명하지 못한다. 여성들 및 성적 소수자들이 우리 사회에서 이러한 의미의 을의 지위에 놓여 있다는 점을 감안하면, 푸코 이론의 이러한 공백을 메울 수 있는 길을 모색할 필요가 있다고 생각한다.
