‘104 Curriculum Guide’ (partial amendment draft)' affair, which recently sparked controversies in the Taiwanese society and is still underway, is a dispute so fierce as to bring the Guomintang(國民黨) government to a crisis and may have implications for the making of the state-designated history textbooks in Korea. This study summarized the trends of disputes over Taiwanese history textbooks by dividing into three periods of President Lee Deng-hui'(李登輝)s government, President Chen Shui-bian(陳水扁)'s and President Ma Ying-jiu(馬英九)'s. The study examined the trends of curriculum guides in middle and high school history textbooks from ‘Recognition of Taiwan’ to ‘Small Adjustment of 104 Curriculum Guide’, centered on the conflicts of historical terms. Watershed in Taiwanese history textbooks during Lee Deng-hui's government was the emergence of Taiwanese history. In middle school curriculums, own Taiwanese history textbooks were published and later in high school curriculums, five chapters out of total 20 were allocated to Taiwanese history. Following ‘95 Temporary Curriculum Guide’, ‘98 Curriculum Guide’ might have been the culmination of reinforcement of Taiwanese history education promoted by the Democratic Progressive Party'(民進黨)s Chen Shui-bian's government, then ‘104 Curriculum Guide (partial amendment draft)’ –amendment of ‘101 Curriculum Guide’ - showed the limit of how far education of Taiwanese history could be allowed under President Ma Ying-jiu's government.
