Education plays an important part to sustain democracy. The principles of democracy as well as the thoughts of human rights and peace have been taught at school in Japan and many other countries. However, unfortunately, we often find discourses posted by people who have received higher education that could damage democracy on the internet. One is racist discourse and the other is conspiracy-theory discourse among people who wish for peace and democracy. I argue that these wrong understandings are caused by the fact that we have not enough trained for media literacy not only at school but also in society. This presentation takes some examples of typical “myths” from the internet. Then I examine one trial of opinion-making training during my politics lecture at KwanseiGakuin University, Japan. To conclude the presentation, I would like to ask all the floor advices and critics about my hypothesis in which the media literacy is the crucial capacity for the people with whom the sovereign power resides in all the democratic countries.
