This paper tried to examine how original elements of Ruist thought is implied in the Guayao-ci(卦爻辭) of the Zhouyi. The conceptual elemants composing of several culture institution are numerously involved in the Zhouyi since ancient times and Eun-Zhou periods. These conceptual elemants include special institutional strategy, cultural orientation, or moral meaning. Through the consideration about contents of Guayao-ci and Shang-chuan(象傳) and Dan-chuan(彖傳) as its commentary involving cultural and institutional meaning, this essay concretely intended to reveal that the original elements of Ruist thought is in hiding in any shape. The Zhouyi is basically comprised of the I Ching(易經)and I Chuan(易傳) as its commentary, and the I Ching embraces symbol of Guayao and its sentence, the I Chuan turns on the Ten-Wings(十翼). It is the Dae Shang-chuan within the I Chuan that involves strongly moral order of Confucianism and cultivational meaning requiring human practice. Besides the Dae Shang-chuan, Dan-chuan, Gae sa chuan, Shuo Gua chuan etc. also understand moral virtues of Covfucianism as having connection with way(道) of heaven and earth, and several paragraphs through which constitute natural foundation to confucian moral is suggested repeatedly in them. In other words, the Zhouyi has installed cosmological or metaphysical foundation of confucian moral virtues by regarding Yin-Yang and sturdiness and gentleness of heaven and earth, nature as continuous ones with benevolence and righteousness. The Zhouyi makes the courtesy[禮] as political and institutional system composing basics of Confucianism of standard, and has the original elements of Ruist thought through which had resolved the foundation of life of subjects by invoking public office concept of the Zhou LI(周禮) as bureaucratic system realizing confucian idea in the periods of Zhou Dynasty. In the Guayao-ci(卦爻辭) of the Zhouyi, the concepts such as San Woo(山虞) as administration controling forest, shackles(桎梏) confining criminal, leather belt[鞶帶] bestowed for official service, reflect fundamental elements of Confucianiam, which perform a function in the cultural and institutional system of original Confucianism. These concepts show that the Zhouyi have the purpose having tried to realize moral and political ideal of confucian thought by combinating mechanical law of nature with ethical fidelity of personnel affairs.

본 논문은 『주역』 괘효사와 ｢상전｣, ｢단전｣ 등에 어떠한 원시유학사상적 요소가 내포되어 있는가를 『주역』에 수록된 제도적 문화적 내용을 중심으로 하여 살펴보고자 하였다. 『주역』에는 상고 시대와 은주(殷周) 시대 이래에 여러 문화 제도를 이루는 개념적 요소들이 많이 내포되어 있다. 이들 개념적 요소들은 특정한 제도적 장치와 문화적 지향, 또는 도덕적 의미를 포함하고 있다.『주역』은 기본적으로 『역경』과 『역전』으로 이루어져 있는데, 『역경』은 괘효상과 괘효사를 포괄하고, 『역전』은 ｢십익｣을 중심으로 한다. 『역전』 가운데 인간의 실천을 요청하는 유학의 도덕적 질서와 수양론적 의미를 강하게 담고 있는 전(傳)은 ｢대상전｣이다. ｢대상전｣ 이외에 『역전』에서 ｢단전｣, ｢계사전｣, ｢설괘전｣ 등에도 유학사상의 도덕적 덕목을 천지(天地)의 도(道)와 연속성을 가지는 것으로 이해하여 유학적 도덕에 대한 자연적 근거를 세우는 구절들이 반복하여 제시된다. 『주역』괘효사에는 중도(中道)를 지킴으로써 군무를 잘 수행하는 장수에게 국방을 담당하는 관직의 명령을 내린다든가, 신분을 초월하여 도덕적으로 어진 신하에게 어린 딸을 시집보내는 관례로 도덕성을 우선하는 예법, 천자에게 조공을 바침으로써 신뢰와 유대의식을 지키는 제후의 예 등을 통하여 원시유학의 도덕적 이념을 뜻하는 요소가 포함되어 있다. 또한 『주역』은 주대의 유학이념을 실현시켜주는 관료 체계로서 『주례』의 관직 개념을 원용함으로써, 원시유학 사상의 기반이 되는 정치 제도적 조직으로서 예(禮)를 표준으로 하여 백성들의 삶의 기반을 해결해 주는 유학사상의 원형적 요소를 담고 있다. 『주역』 괘효사에서 주대(周代)에 산림을 관장하는 관리로서 ‘산우(山虞)’라든가, ‘질곡(桎梏)’, ‘반대(鞶帶)’, ‘정정(定鼎)’과 같은 개념은 원시적 유학의 문화적 제도적 조직 체계 속에서 기능하는 유학사상의 기초가 되는 의미를 담고 있다. 이러한 개념들은 『주역』이 자연의 기계적 법칙과 인사의 도덕적 의리를 결합함으로써 유학사상의 도덕적 정치적 이념을 실현하고자 하는 목적을 가지고 있음을 보여준다고 할 수 있다.
