This article aims to analyze the characteristics and the possibility of political change of the early 19th presidential election by the presidential impeachment. The impeachment of the President Park Geun-hye not only changed the political timetable of Korea, but also brought about a change in the party approval rate which has been maintained steady in the past. The 19th presidential election, which was held in a special environment of early elections after impeachment, showed a slight increase in electors' voting participation compared to previous elections, however, there were no significant differences in major aspects such as interest in elections, factors for choosing support candidates, and timing of selecting them. Yet, the proportion of voters who changed their support candidates was higher than previous elections, and the influence of TV debate on the changing support candidates was increased. In regard to the possibility of political change, firstly, there is a possibility that the Korean party system can be changed from almost two-party system to the multi-party system, Secondly, the deviation of the voters who supported the party or candidates with the conservative ideology appeared remarkably, Thirdly, public consensus on the necessity of revising the constitution is increasing. Thus, if this change persists for a while, this 19th presidential election will be recorded as the beginning of a change that will bring about fundamental changes in the political system or the power structure of Korea.

이 글은 대통령 탄핵에 의해 조기에 치러진 제19대 대통령선거의 특징과 정치적 변화의 가능성을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 박근혜 대통령 탄핵은 한국의 정치적 시간표를 바꾸었을 뿐만 아니라, 기존에 공고하게 유지되어 온 정당 지지율의 변화를 가져왔다. 탄핵 후 조기대선이라는 특수한 환경에서 치러진 이번 제19대 대선은 이전 선거와 비교해서 유권자의 투표 참여가 다소 증가했으나, 선거에 대한 관심도나 지지후보를 결정하는 요인, 지지후보를 결정하는 시기 등의 주요 요인에서 결정적인 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 다만, 지지후보자를 변경한 유권자의 비율이 이전 선거보다 다소 높게 나타났고, 유권자의 지지후보 변경에 TV 토론이 영향이 높아진 것으로 나타났다. 정치적 변화 가능성에 관련해서는 첫째, 한국의 정당체계가 양당제에 가까운 것에서 다당제적 정당체계로 변화할 수 있는 가능성이 나타났고, 둘째, 보수 이념을 가진 정당이나 후보자를 지지하던 유권자층의 이탈이 두드러지게 나타났으며, 셋째, 헌법 개정의 필요성에 대한 국민적 공감대가 높아지고 있다는 점이다. 따라서 만약 이러한 변화가 상당 기간 지속된다면 19대 대선은 한국의 정당체계나 권력구조의 근본적인 지각변동을 가져오는 변화의 시작으로 기록될 것이다.
