This study has two research purposes. First, it aims to compare the factors that effected on the political participation in the voting and the candlelight protest in the 19th Korean presidential election. This make it possible to find out the similarities and differences between the institutional political participation and uninstitutional political participation in Korea. Second, this study analyzes that the candlelight protest have influence on the voter participation in the 19th Korean presidential election. Employing the logistic regression analyses, the statistical results shows that the factors effecting on the political participation in the voting and the candlelight protest in the 19th Korean presidential election display a significant gap. Also, this study can confirm that the candle light protest have great influence on the voter participation in the 19th Korean presidential election. These results mean that there are political conflict between representative democracy and direct democracy as well as between the institutional political participation and uninstitutional political participation in Korea. Therefore, it will be a key issue how to resolve the conflicts in Korean politics.

본 연구의 목적은 서로 다른 유형의 정치참여에 영향을 미치는 요인을 비교 분석하고 그 관계를 규명하는데 있다. 구체적으로 본 연구는 19대 대통령선거의 투표 여부와 촛불집회 참여 여부에 영향을 미친 요인을 비교 분석하고 있다. 이를 통하여 제도적 정치참여의 대표적인 유형인 투표와 비제도적 정치참여의 하나의 유형인 촛불집회의 참가 여부에 영향을 미치는 요인들이 어떠한 차이점과 유사점을 보이고 있는가를 비교 분석하고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 촛불집회 참여 여부가 19대 대통령선거 투표 여부에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는가를 분석함으로써 비제도적 정치참여와 제도적 정치참여의 관계를 고찰하고 있다. 연구결과, 19대 대통령선거 투표 여부와 촛불집회 참여 여부에 영향을 미치는 요인들은 상당 수준 일치하지 않고 차이를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 촛불집회 참여 여부가 19대 대통령선거 투표 여부에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미쳤다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 이와 같은 연구결과는 한국에서 대의민주주의와 직접민주주의, 그리고 제도적 정치참여와 비제도적 정치참여 간에 갈등요인이 존재한다는 점을 시사한다. 그러므로 향후 양자 간의 갈등을 어떻게 조정하고 발전적인 방향에서 관계 정립을 하는가의 문제가 중요한 화두가 될 것으로 전망된다.
