The purpose of this study is to establish an identity of a subject of moral by pointing to problems and inquiring the alternatives through analysis of the components of the 7th curriculum in elementary moral education. At first, as the objectives of moral education adhere to the way to foster the morality through cultivating of the character, the identity of a subject of moral can be injured. Because the cultivating of the character is the objectives that all subjects want to attain. Secondly, the construction of contents are required a foundation of ethics. Because the disposing the bags without considering academic system is difficulty in establishing academic validity. Finally, the methods of teaching - learning have to be consistent with the objectives of moral education. In 7th curriculum, the objectives of moral education are moral socialization and moral development. But the elementary moral education focused exclusively on the moral socialization. Therefore, it is required the methods of teaching - learning considered both the objectives of moral education

본 연구의 목적은 제 7차 교육과정 구성요소의 문제점을 지적하고 대안을 모색함으로써 교과로서의 정체성을 확보하도록 하는데 있다. 먼저, 도덕과 목표와 관련하여 도덕성에 대한 개념 규정을 명료화할 필요가 있다. 제7차 교육과정에서는 도덕성을 인격의 함양을 통해 접근하는 방식을 견지함으로써 교과의 정체성을 손상시킬 수 있다. 왜냐하면 인격의 함양은 모든 교과에서 접근하고 있는 교육의 목표이기 때문이다. 둘째는 도덕과 내용구성과 관련하여 윤리학적 이론에 기초한 내용구성이 요구된다. 왜냐하면 제 7차 교육과정에서처럼 학문적 체계성의 고려없이 덕목의 백화점식 나열은 학문적 정당성을 확보하기 어렵기 때문이다. 마지막으로 도덕과 목표에 부합되는 교수-학습방법이 적용되어야 한다는 것이다. 현행 도덕과 교육의 목표는 도덕사회화와 도덕발달을 동시에 추구한다. 그러나 초등 도덕과 교육은 도덕발달이 거의 배제된 채 도덕사회화만을 강조하고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 두 목표를 동시에 고려할 수 있는 접근 방식이 필요하다.
