The political system is an open system continuously responding to the changes of its environments and a non-linear system with the self-organizing ability. North Korea political system as an open system had been maintaining its socialist regime in stable state until mid 1980s. However, after late 1980s, the radical changes of both internal and external environments, the depeening of economic crisis, and the growing closeness of the system have been making North Korea political system move to the maximum state of entropy and show unpredictable fluctuating system behaviors and responses. What this means is that North Korea political system is getting closer to the realm of chaos, so that the possibility of creating a new order through self-organization is getting higher. To analyze what kind of patterns could be possible if it tries to seek a new kind of order through self-organization, a empirical model from the experiences past socialist systems is established and applied to North Korea political system. Under the present circumstances of approaching the critical range, it is not possible for North Korea political system to maintain its socialist regime structures. Nonetheless, if North Korea political system as an open system goes over the critical range into the realm of chaos, then the system will proceed the evolutionary self-organization so as to create its new kind of order independent of the will of North Korea political authorities. No one could predict what kind of system with new order would be.

정치체계는 환경의 변화에 지속적으로 반응하는 개방체계이며, 자기구성 능력을 지닌 비선형체계이다. 개방적 적응체계로서의 북한 정치체계 역시 80년대 중반까지 대내외적 중압에 적절하게 대응하면서 안정적으로 체제를 유지하여 왔다. 그러나 80년대 후반 이후 대내외적 환경의 급격한 변화와 경제적 침체의 가중, 폐쇄성의 증대 등으로 인해 북한 정치체계는 현재 평형에서 멀리 떨어진 불안정한 상태에서 더욱 예측하기 힘든 행동과 반응을 보이고 있다. 이는 북한 정치체계가 혼돈의 국면으로 더욱 다가가고 있음을 의미하는 것으로 자기구성을 통한 새로운 질서를 모색할 가능성은 더욱 높아지고 있다. 북한 정치체계가 자기구성을 통해 새로운 질서를 모색할 경우 어떠한 유형으로 나타날 것인가를 분석하기 위해, 기존 사회주의 정치체계가 보여준 자기구성의 유형을 토대로 경험적 모형을 구성하고, 이를 북한 정치체계에 적용해 보았다. 임계상황으로 다가서고 있는 현 상황에서 북한 정치체계가 기존의 체제구조를 고수한다는 것은 사실상 불가능하다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 만일 개방체계로서의 북한 정치체계가 임계범위를 넘어 혼돈의 국면에 접어들게 된다면, 그때는 북한 지도부의 의지와는 관계없이 체계는 자기구성의 길에 들어서서 스스로 새로운 질서를 만들어내게 될 것이다. 새롭게 만들어진 질서를 갖춘 체계가 어떤 모습을 보여줄 지는 누구도 예측할 수 없을 것이다.
