This study summarizes the origin and the developmental process of ideological internal conflict in south Korea which is the important phenomenon in Korea now. And it examines the role and responsibility of middle/high school teachers to disentangle the ideological conflict in south Korea. The consequency obtained in this study are as follows: First, it surveys the dilemma of the north Korea-the United States, the south Korea-the United States and north-south Korea relations through investigation of the preceding documentary records. Second, it analyze the two points of view with issue from various angles in the recognition of north Korea, the United States, and awareness of national security. Third, it examines the political tendency and the consciousness of the north Korea/the United States/north-south Korea relations, the current status of unification education of middle/high school teachers in charge of unification education in morals & ethics subjects through questionnaires with analysis. Fourth, it indicates the task of educational process to bring a matter to settlement and to find a solution of the ideological internal conflict in south Korea.

이 글은 한국사회에서 가장 두드러진 현상의 하나인 남남갈등의 기원과 전개과정을 개괄하고, 이를 해소해 나가기 위한 중등학교 도덕․윤리 교과 교사들의 역할 인식과 과제를 고찰하고 있다. 우선 선행 문헌 연구를 통해서는 북미, 한미, 남북관계의 딜레마 속에서 형성된 대북, 대미, 안보 인식의 두 가지 편향과 문제점들을 분석하였다. 그리고 설문 조사 및 분석을 통해 통일 교육을 담당하는 중등학교 도덕․윤리 교과 교사들의 정치 정향(定向)과 대북, 대미, 남북관계에 대한 의식, 현행 통일교육의 현황에 대한 견해들을 점검한 후 남남갈등 해소를 위한 교육과정의 과제를 제시하였다. 또 한국 국민의 이념 성향에 있어서 중도가 줄고 진보, 보수가 증가하는 이념적 극화(polarization)가 진행되는 가운데 주요한 갈등 축으로 부상한 진보적 30대 도덕․윤리 교과 교사들이 다원적 가치가 공존하는 다정체성의 시대에 맞는 가치관을 정립해 내기 위하여 중요한 역할을 하여야 함을 강조하였다.
