In this paper, I intend to explore the standing of forest. A forest is an area with a high density of trees. It's community of various living thing and non-living thing. These forest communities cover large areas of the globe and function as carbon dioxide sinks, animal habitats, water-flow modulators, and soil conservers, constituting one of the most important aspects of the Earth's biosphere. But the forest has confronted with serious ecological crisis. So I want to apply moral standing to forest. It is necessary to think ‘the good of forest’ in the sense of ‘the value of forest’ Generally forest have no good of their own, and are good only for satisfying human interests. However, I reject this view. I recognize intrinsic value, instrumental value and inherent value, but I support inherent value in forest ethics. In this paper, first of all I reviewed various perspectives : Paul Taylor, Aldo Leopold, Christopher Stone, ẻcoumen etc. I intended to examine various proposed moral grounds for preserving forest. After then, I care about the management of forests. The management ethics aim at sustainable resource extraction. My presentation is that Human come to be manager, not exploit. As most forests have been affected by humans to some degree, human have to manage ‘good forest’ by ethical standard.

본 논문에서는 숲의 도덕적 지위를 검토하고, 숲과 인간과의 바람직한 관계를 바탕으로 한 인간의 역할을 제시하고자 한다. 우선 환경윤리학자들의 논의를 바탕으로 해서 숲의 도덕적 지위를 추출하고자 한다. 숲에 대해 직접적으로 논한 학자들은 많지 않지만 숲을 포함한 환경에 대해 논한 학자들은 수없이 많다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 관점이 다른 입장들을 중점적으로 살펴보고 숲의 도덕적 지위를 비교 검토 할 것이다. 그리고 숲의 도덕적 지위를 기본으로 해서 인간과의 관계를 모색해보자 한다. 숲은 그 자체로 혹은 다른 존재에게도 가치 있는 것이지만, 특히 인간에게 있어서 숲의 가치는 무엇인지를 찾아본 후 숲 관리의 윤리의 필요성을 찾아보고자 한다. 환경윤리에서 개체론과 전체론이 대립되고 있기 때문에 나무의 도덕적 지위와 숲의 도덕적 지위를 다르게 보기도 한다. 본 논문에서는 나무 보다는 숲에 초점을 맞추어 숲의 도구적 가치와 내재적 가치를 근거로 해서 숲 윤리의 정립방향을 제시하고자 한다.
