This study set out to compare adolescents in terms of mature perceptions of volunteer service including the institutional understanding of volunteer service activities, changes to their personal values and life attitudes through volunteering, sociodemographic characteristics of settlement of volunteer service activities as part of culture, and opportunities and experiences of volunteer activities. The study also aimed to search for ways to raise the maturity level of their volunteer service activities by the stages. The subjects include 246 middle school students whose survey responses were statistically treated. The findings were as follows: as for the maturity level of volunteer service activities according to the grade, the eighth graders scored higher points in the system and understanding of volunteering than the ninth graders. There were no differences in the perceptions of maturity levels of volunteer service activities according to the grade and living standard. As for the maturity level of volunteer service activities according to the motivation for volunteering, those who did volunteer service activities voluntarily scored higher points in the institution and understanding domain and the cultural settlement domain than those who did to get volunteer points or by the recommendation of others. As for the maturity level according to the frequency of volunteering, those who did once a month or more frequently scored higher points in the institution and understanding, spread of values, and cultural settlement domains than those who did once a quarter or less frequently or had no experiences of volunteering. Those findings indicate that there were different perception patterns of maturity levels of volunteer service activities experienced by adolescents according to the sociodemographic characteristics, motivations for volunteer activities, and degrees of experiences.

본 연구는 청소년들의 자원봉사활동에 관한 제도 및 이해정도, 그리고 자원봉사를 통하여 청소년들 개인의 가치관변화 및 생활태도변화, 그리고 자원봉사활동이 문화로서 정착되어지는 것에 대하여 인구사회학적 특성 및 봉사활동에 대한 계기 및 경험정도에 대해서 청소년들의 자원봉사에 대한 성숙인식을 비교하여 알아보고, 청소년 자원봉사 활동의 단계별 성숙수준을 높이기 위한 방안을 모색하는 데 있다. 연구대상으로는 중학생 246명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 그 결과를 통계처리 하였다. 연구 결과, 학력별 자원봉사활동 성숙단계는 중2학년이 중3학년에 비해 자원봉사의 제도 및 이해영역에 대해서 높은 수준의 결과가 나왔으나, 성적수준 및 생활수준별 자원봉사활동 성숙단계 인식수준은 집단 간 차이를 나타내지 못했다. 봉사계기별 자원봉사활동 성숙단계는 자발적으로 자원봉사활동을 하는 학생들이 봉사점수나 타인의 권유로 봉사를 참여한 학생들에 비해 제도 및 이해영역, 그리고 문화정착 영역에 대해서 높은 수준의 결과 가 나왔으며, 봉사 횟수에 따른 성숙단계는 한 달에 1회 이상 한 학생들이 분기별 1회이하나 전혀 경험이 없는 학생들에 비해 제도 및 이해영역, 가치확산 및 문화정착 영역에 대해서 높은 수준의 결과가 나왔다. 본 연구를 통해 청소년들이 경험하는 자원봉사활동의 성숙단계별 인식은 인구사회학적 특성 및 봉사활동 계기 및 경험정도에 따라 다른 양상을 가지는 것으로 나타났다.
