The historical experience of the imperialist violence of modern universalism, the loss of humanity and the destruction of human life brought about by the instrumental rationality of modern technological civilization, has called for an alternative solidarity and peace community that respect humanity and embrace diversity and difference. This paper focuses on the contemporary love discourse that finds the practical and theoretical foundation for the new universal solidarity and global peace in the emotional domain, ‘love’, and explores its meanings for peace studies. In particular, I examine the love discourse of Alain Badiou, a French philosopher who has sought alternative universalism and philosophical foundations of the human community in the background of the European Union, and the discourse of ‘True love’ of the ‘Unification Thought’ advocated by the Family Federation World Peace and Unification, a new religion emerged in modern Korea. Alain Badiou focused on love, the experiences and events of two persons, as a process of revealing the truth of difference. As a religious thought, ‘Unification Thought’ seeks the origin of peace in the unification of the two beings, centering ‘True Love’ (of God). The two discourses basically belong to different dimensions and also have different perceptions and orientations toward concrete real problems. Interestingly, however, Both shows the systematic thought of love as the basis of peace and solidarity, meets in that they emphasize the dimension of ‘two’. Above all, it is noteworthy that through the horizontal universal community based on the solidarity, unity, and peace of the two, each love discourse attempts to overcome the problem of modern universality based on the identity of subject caused imperialist violence in the history of reality. For this comes from sharing a postmodern context that calls for a alternative principles of peaceful world community and by critically recognizing human understanding of the dominant intellectualism. The contact points of the two discourses which emphasize the dimension of ‘two’ as the premise of the unification or universal solidarity provide important implications for the request for peace respecting diversity and difference in our times, and the practical discussion suitable for it.

근대 기술문명이 초래한 인간성 상실과 삶의 파괴, 서구 근대 보편주의의 폭력성에 대한 역사적 경험은 인간성을 존중하고 다양성과 차이를 포용하는 진정한 연대와 평화 공동체를 절실한 과제로 요청하고 있다. 이 논문은 감성영역인 사랑에서 새로운 보편적 연대와 지구촌 평화를 위한 실천적, 이론적 기초를 찾는 현대 사랑담론에 주목하고, 그 평화학적 의미를 모색한다. 특히 유럽통합의 흐름을 배경으로 대안적 보편성과 인류공동체의 철학적 기초를 모색해온 프랑스 철학자 알랭 바디우(Alain Badiou)의 사랑담론과 근대 한국에서 출현한 신종교인 세계평화통일가정연합이 주창하는 ‘통일사상’의 ‘참사랑’담론을 비교 검토하였다. 두 담론은 철학과 종교사상, 유럽과 동아시아라는 서로 다른 맥락을 지니지만, 흥미롭게도 평화와 연대의 기초로서 사랑의 적극적 힘과 현실적 의미를 체계적 사유로 제시하고 있으며, 사랑에서 ‘둘의 관점’을 강조하고 있다는 점에서 의미있는 접점을 보인다. 무엇보다 주체의 동일성에 기초한 근대적 보편성이 현실역사에서 제국주의적 폭력으로 나타났던 한계를 둘의 연대와 통일, 평화에 기초한 수평적인 보편 공동체를 통해 극복하려는 시도가 주목할 만하다. 이는 대안적 세계공동체의 원리와 진정한 평화를 요청하는 탈 근대적 맥락과 인간이해에 대한 주지주의적 인간이해에 대한 비판적 인식을 공유하는 데서 온다. 사랑에서 결합의 작용만큼 그 전제인 둘의 차원을 강조하는 두 담론의 접점은 다양성과 차이를 존중하면서 화합의 공동체를 지향하는 우리 시대 평화에 대한 요청과 그에 적합한 실천적 논의에 중요한 시사점을 주고 있다.
