This study clarifies the differences between souda and youda in representing the conjecture of an unrealized event. These two forms basically have different meanings and usages, but they become close to each other when they express the conjecture of an unrealized event that has not occurred yet at the time of speech, but is going to occur in the near future. This is because when youda is connected to the ru-form, which represents the future tense in Japanese, it becomes close to souda with the meaning of representing a future event. This study analyzed what types of events souda and youda can take as an unrealized event in representing the conjecture of an unrealized event, and insisted that souda takes a non-volitional event as an unrealized event and youda takes a volitional event as an unrealized event. Furthermore, this study shows the usage of souda, which describes the attribute of the subject with a volitional verb, and the usage of youda, which describes the general tendency with a volitional or non-volitional verb. This generalization of the general tendency is made by the speaker through their observation and experience.

본 연구에서는 미실현 사태에 대한 예상을 나타내는 「そうだ」와「ようだ」에 대하여 비교 분석을 행하였다. 「そうだ」와「ようだ」는 기본적으로 의미와 용법을 달리하지만 양형식이 발화시점에서는 아직 일어나지 않았으나 앞으로 일어날 것이라는 사태 즉 미실현 시태의 성립에 대한 예상을 나타낸다고 하는 점에서는 그 사용 영역이 근접하게 된다. 즉, 「ようだ」에 동적 사태를 나타내는 동사의 「ル形」이 접속할 경우 「そうだ」의 용법 중 가까운 미래에 어떠한 사태가 일어난다고 하는 예상을 나타내는 용법과 유사한 의미를 나타내게 된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 「そうだ」와 「ようだ」가 나타내는 미실현 사태란 어떠한 성질의 것인가에 대하여 동사의 의지성이라고 하는 의미적 특징을 중심으로 고찰하였다. 「そうだ」는 무의지적 사태의 예상을 나타내는 반면 「ようだ」는 의지적인 사태의 예상을 나타낸다고 하는 사실을 주장하였다. 또한, 「そうだ」에는 의지적 행위를 나타내는 동사가 접속하여 주어의 성질을 묘사하거나 추측하는 속성묘사의 용법이 있음을 주장하였으며 「ようだ」에는 무의지적 사태나 의지적 행위를 나타내는 동사가 접속하여 화자가 자신의 경험과 관찰을 통해서 일반화를 도출하는 것을 나타내는 일반적 경향의 추측의 용법이 있음을 확인하였다.
