Containers used in the process of cooking and table ware used to bring the finished dishes to the table have a close relationship with human daily life. Through these tools, which are basically based on practicality, we have an opportunity to synthetically check the natural and social environment, science and technology, cultural traditions and arts of the day. Samovar(самовар), which is now part of the traditional souvenir ranks of Russia, which can be found in souvenir shops in cities and rural areas, is now a symbol of Russian and Russian culture. G. Fraikopp emphasizes the cultural originality and speciality of the samovar by saying that ‘the Russian word samovar is not translated (русское слово самовар не переводится)'. The great interest, love and pride of the Russians in the samovar is not missing in the books and researches that introduce Russian food culture and living culture, but the specific and specialized domestic studies on the samovar have not been done to date. This article examines the historical origins and progress of the samovar based on the studies in Russia, and examines the various images which were described in the Russian literature. In a short period of time, samovar became an indispensable necessity in the daily life of all Russians and symbolized tea culture, happiness and reconciliation, leisure, hospitality and discussion culture, as well as a heritage of one family. It also has diverse cultural symbolic areas that link to the traditions of the Slav.
