The purpose of this study is to examine the correlation between moral identity and moral memory based on the neuroscience view of identity and to reveal significance of moral memory. Moral identity plays an important role as a factor of moral motivation. In particular, A social-cognitive approach to moral identity enriches the meaning of moral identity. In this context, neuroscientific interpretation of identity can present a new perspective in understanding moral identity. Based on the results of neuroscience research on identity, this study suggest moral memory as a kind of implicit memories and autobiographical memories obtained from episodic memories of past moral experiences and conscious recall based on them, It is not confined to present point, but a concept that includes memories as contents and as process of reconstitution to be used in maintaining the present and imagining future actions based on past memories. This study analyzed the correlation between moral memory and moral identity based on the social cognitive theory through quantitative research. The result showed that moral identity and moral memory are related. In the implicit memory measure items, the moral response group showed higher level of internalization of moral identity than the nonmoral response group. And moral identity and sub-factors of moral memory (frequency of moral experience, reflection and social interaction on moral experience) were statistically significant. In addition, moral identity has more influence on the conscious recall of moral experience than the frequency of moral experience. Through these research results, it is shown that ① moral memory is useful for understanding various moral judgments and behaviors, and ② moral reflection is emphasized as effective moral education.

본 연구의 목적은 도덕적 정체성과 도덕적 기억 사이의 연관성을 정체성에 대한 신경과학적 관점 을 바탕으로 검토하고 도덕적 기억이 가지는 의의를 밝히는데 있다. 도덕적 정체성은 도덕적 동기 화의 요소로서 중요한 역할을 한다. 특히, 도덕적 정체성에 대한 사회인지적 접근은 도덕적 정체성 의 의미를 풍부하게 만들고 있다. 이런 상황 속에서 정체성에 신경과학적 해석은 도덕적 정체성을 이해하는데 새로운 관점을 제시할 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구는 정체성에 대한 신경과학적 연구 성과를 바탕으로 도덕적 기억을 과거의 도덕적 경험에 대한 일화기억과 이를 바탕으로 한 의식적인 회상의 결과로 얻어지는 암묵기억과 자서전적 기억의 한 종류로서 과거의 시점에만 국한되는 기억이 아니라 과거의 기억을 바탕으로 현재를 유지하고 미 래의 행동을 상상하는 과정에서 사용되는 내용으로서의 기억이자 재구성의 과정으로서의 기억을 포 함하는 개념으로 정의한다. 그리고 이렇게 정의된 도덕적 기억과 사회인지 이론에 입각한 도덕적 정체성 사이의 연관성을 양적 연구를 통해 검증한다. 연구를 통해 도덕적 정체성과 도덕적 기억이 연관성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 암묵기억 측정 문항에서 도덕적 반응을 보인 집단은 그렇지 않는 집단에 비해 도덕적 정체성의 내면화 수준이 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 도덕적 정체성과 도덕적 기 억의 하위요인(도덕적 경험의 빈도, 도덕적 경험에 대한 성찰과 사회적 상호작용)들 간에 통계적으 로 유의미한 차이가 나타났다. 뿐만 아니라 도덕적 정체성에 도덕적 경험에 대한 빈도보다 도덕적 경험에 대한 의시적인 회상이 많은 영향력이 있음이 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과를 통해, ①도덕적 기억이 다양한 도덕적 판단과 행위를 이해하는데 유용하고, ②효과적인 도덕 교육의 방안으로서 도 덕적 성찰의 중요하는 것을 강조한다.
