This study investigates the effect of facility investment on productivity and the level of employment of 14 Korean manufacturing industry between 1978 and 2005. First of all, investing facility clearly increases in productivity. More specifically, the effect of facility investment on productivity decreases in the first 2 years, but increases after 2 years and it reaches its peak point after 3-4 years later. On the other hand, investing facility clearly decreases in the level of employment. More specifically, the effect of facility investment on the level of employment increases in the third year, but decreases after the third years. Unlike the previous studies, this study focuses on facility investment on the manufacturing industry in Korea. Based on the empirical results of this study, productivity and employment seem to be trade-off relationship in terms of facility investment in manufacturing industry.

기업의 기술혁신을 위한 투자는 생산성을 증진시키고 나아가 기업의 경쟁력을 향상시키기 위한 가장 중요한 선택일 것이다. 우리나라의 경우도 최근 대내외의 경제환경 변화에 의한 기술혁신의 압력이 증대되고 있는 실정이다.
