The purpose of this study was to explore the Korean Wave in Japan, specifically a drama of Korea which is a cultural product that has hybridity, and what forms of discourse are being built the image of Japan in the social phenomenon. If the process of Korean cultural products such as the drama “Winter Sonata” is transmitted to Japan and consumed in Japan, and it is called “Korean Wave in Japan,” the process of detoxification of Koreans looking at it is “As a process of producing a social discourse that is supposed to be an ‘other’ and that ‘he operation of nationalism in our country’. This discussion was based on the assumption that mixed discourses of Korean dramas and Japanese cultural tastes are operated. This study focused on this point and seeked to examine in what ways the Korean Wave developed in Japan is consuming the national representation of Japan in Korea. As a result, the Korean wave phenomenon in Korea was constructed as a discourse that promoted nationalism by economic pride. However, it also noted the possibility that another form of “imperial Japan”, hostile nationalism, could be reproduced. In addition, theoretical limitations of hybrid theory are presented, and the possibility of theoretical alternatives is explored.

본고는 일본에서의 한류, 즉 한국의 드라마라고 하는 미디어 텍스트를 중심으로 전개된 한류가 혼종성을 갖고 있는 문화적 산물로 간주하고, 이러한 한류를 통해서 드러난 사회 현상 속에서 일본이라는 이미지가 어떠한 형태의 담론으로 구축되고 있는지를 고찰하고자 하였다. 드라마 󰡔겨울연가󰡕라고 하는 한국의 문화상품이 일본에 전달되어 일본에서 소비되어 가는 과정, 이것을 ｢일본에서의 한류｣라고 지칭한다면, 이를 바라보는 한국인의 해독의 과정은 ‘일본 속의한류가 일본이라는 타자로 상정되어 자국의 내셔널리즘의 작동’이라고 하는 사회적 담론을 생산해 내 가고 있는 과정으로 간주하였고, 이는 곧 한국의 드라마와 일본의 문화적 취향이 혼합된, 혼종적 성격의 담론들이 작동하는 과정이라는전제하에 논의를 전개하였다. 본고는 이러한 부분에 주목하여, 일본에서 전개된한류가 한국 내에서 어떠한 방식으로 일본이라고 하는 국가적 표상이 소비되어가는 지를 고찰하고자 하였다. 그 결과, 한국에서의 일본의 한류 현상은 경제적프라이드에 의한 내셔널리즘의 고취로 이어졌다. 그러나 그 이면에는 또 다른형태의 ‘제국 일본’이라고 하는 적대적 내셔널리즘의 작동 방식도 재생산되어나갈 수 있다는 가능성에도 주목하였다. 또한 혼종성 이론이 갖고 있는 이론적한계점을 제시하였고, 향후 이를 활용한 이론적 대안의 가능성도 모색하였다.
