Research focusing on Joseon literature in Japan during the 1970s was a period of paradigm change due to research by Japanese researchers under leadership of the Joseon people in Japan. Until the mid-1960s, the research of Joseon literature in Japan was a paradigm shift led by the literary people of Joseon in Japan under leadership of the Japanese people's research. Until this time, Joseon literature research in Japan was mainly undertaken by Joseon literary people based in Jochongnyeon. However, as the Joseon Literary Association was organized in 1963 and the magazine『Joseon Literature― Introduction and Research』was published by them, the research trend observed for Joseon literature mainly involving Japanese Dong-in began to appear. They studied Joseon literature through an exchange with the Joseon literary people in Japan through exchanging papers. In this process, the Joseon literary people in Japan influenced the direction of Joseon literature research in Japan. At that time, it was impossible to conduct normal literature research in Korea due to suppression of the literary world by the Park Chung-hee regime by organizing writers’ spy groups, etc. However, research on Kim, jiha by Japan, etc. formed part of the complementary tendency to conduct Joseon literature research that could not be performed in Korea. The Joseon Literary Association that existed in the beginning of the Joseon literature research trend in Japan in 1970s subsequently developed an identity of Joseon literature research in Japan through the exchange with Joseon people in Japan, and developed a different form from that in Korea.

1970년대 접어들어 일본에서의 조선문학 연구는 대학과 재일조선인 주도에서 일본인들의 연구로 패러다임이 변화해가는 시기였다. 1963년 조선문학의 회(朝鮮文学の会)가 조직되고 이후 1970년대 출간한 『조선문학―소개와 연구(朝鮮文学―紹介と研究)』 』가 등장하며 일본인 동인 주도의 조선문학 연구 경향이 나타나기 시작했다. 이들은 재일조선인 문학자들과 지면을 넘나들며 조선문학을 연구했고 이 과정에서 재일조선인 문학자들은 일본에서의 조선문학 연구 방향에 영향을 끼치기도 했다. 당시 한국은 박정희 정권 하에서 『사상계』 폐간, 문인간첩단 사건 등과 같은 박정희 정권의 문학계 탄압 때문에 정상적인 문학연구가 불가능한 상황이었다. 그러나 동시기 일본에서의 조선문학 연구는 김지하 연구와 같이 한국에서 수행될 수 없는 부분의 연구가 수행되는 보완적 경향이 나타났다. 이같은 1970년대 일본에서의 조선문학 연구의 배경에는 조선문학의 회가 출발점에 있었고, 이후 재일조선인과의 교류를 통해 일본에서의 조선문학 연구는 한국과는 다른 형태로 나타나며 독자성을 나타냈다.
