This thesis presents an analysis of Japanese high school History and Geography textbooks, from which I have selected those sections covering Contemporary Society and Politics & Economy in Japanese History and Civics that refer to Koreans in Japan, not only from the perspective of the Japanese perception of history, but also from the perspective of multicultural policy. The results of the analysis may be summarized as follows. Not only in Japanese History textbooks, but also in those sections covering Contemporary Society and Politics & Economy, the Koreans in Japan are portrayed as being subject to a mixture of discrimination on the grounds of Japanese historicity that existed during its colonial rule of Korea, as well as discrimination against foreigners in ordinary terms. This suggests that the image of Koreans in Japan, which is likely to appear in Japanese textbooks, shares the same characteristics.

본고에서는 현재 일본의 고등학교에서 사용되고 있는 역사ㆍ지리과 중 일본사, 공민과 중 현대사회와 정치ㆍ경제 교과서의 재일코리언 관련 내용을 현재 일본의 역사인식만이 아니라 다문화 정책의 관점에서도 분석하고 있다. 그 결과는 다음과 같이 정리할 수 있다. 즉, 일본사 교과서에서도 현대사회와 정치ㆍ경제 교과서에서도 재일코리언의 표상은 동일하게 식민지배라는 일본의 ‘역사성’에 따른 ‘차별’과 일반적인 차원의 외국인 ‘차별’이 혼재되어 있으며, 이는 재일코리언이라는 존재가 등장할 가능성이 높은 일본의 고등학교 교과서에 나타난 재일코리언의 표상이 동일한 성격을 지니고 있음을 말해준다.
