This study investigated the problems and the future direction of current Japanese literature studies by considering recent , especially Japanese colonial literature. For this discussion, the study examined the 100thissueoftheJournal of Japanology to obtain an impression of the crisis Japanese studies is currently undergoing in Korea with regard to their purpose. The journal contained a discussion about the topic that is currently the most popular, namely, the reason for changing the designation of the discipline from studies to studies, and an examination of the limitations of this discussion. Finally, the direction of Japanese literature studies in Korea was deduced by using the concept of , an alternative way of overcoming the limitation of this study method. However, there are not only different directions but also similarities between the and , another concept widely used in the existing academic literature. The desire not to be restricted by borders among various spectra which have been established in the modern era, while at the same time accepting the current divided or dismembered position and each locality, is required to overcome them. Thus, the key purpose of the concept of is the aim of achieving obsession to overcome the current position and establishment’s creation of a space for conversation to surmount it. It was for the accomplishment of this purpose that Border Crossings; The Journal of Japanese-Language Literature Studies was introduced in this study.

본 논문은 최근의 <일본어 문학>, 특히 식민지 일본어 문학연구를 통해, 현재 일본문학연구의 문제점과 향후 방향성에 대해 논한 것이다. 본 논문에서는 이를 고찰하기 위해 이번 『일본학보』제100호 논문집을 기획취지와 관련되는 한국 내 일본연구의 위기의 양상을 검토하였다. 그리고 최근 활발하게 논의되었던 <일본문학> 연구가 왜 <일본어 문학> 연구로 나가야 하는지 그 이유와 이들 논의의 한계점을 살펴보았다. 마지막으로는 이러한 연구방법의 한계를 극복할 수 있는 대안으로서 <과경(跨境)> Border Crossings 라는 개념을 통해 한국 내 일본문학 연구의 방향성을 도출하였다. 특히, <과경>이라는 개념은 기존 학술계에서 널리 사용되는 <월경(越境)>과 유사성을 가지고 있기도 하지만 이와는 또 다른 방향성을 지향하고 있다. 이는 엄밀히 말해 근대가 만들어 온 다양한 영역의 경계를 뛰어넘음과 동시에 분단된 또는 분할된 현재의 입장, 나아가 각각의 ‘국지성’을 인정하면서 그것을 극복하고자 하는 입장이다. 그렇기 때문에 현재적 입장을 무조건 뛰어넘어야 한다는 강박의식을 지양하면서도 이를 극복하고자 하는 대화 공간을 설정하여 함께 만나고자 하는 점에 <과경>이 지향하고자 하는 중심 취지가 있다. 본 논문에서는 이의 실천으로 『과경 / 일본어문학연구(跨境 / 日本語文学研究)』 Border Crossings ; The Journal of Japanese-Language Literature Studies 도 더불어 소개하였다.
