This study is designed to broaden the foundation of the study on the philosophy of Jeong, Je-du and view it from the modern viewpoint. In addition, for the humanity education in Jeong, Je-du’s philosophy, the study on the humanity education and the necessity of the study on the Jeong Je-du’s philosophy was conducted as its necessity of research and the importance of the humanistic education have recently emerged. In that process, the study started with how the humanity can be defined from the perspective of Jeong, Je-du’s philosophy and defined the human nature found in the Jeong, Je-du’s philosophy as the spirituality and morality. In addition, this study shows that Jeong, Je-du was a scholar who showed the endless passion toward the recovery of the original purpose of the study which is called “Being a saint of confucianism” even under the repression and persecution by Confucian Scholars. Based on that, the study expressed the criticism over the view of considering the purpose of education as another function for the future society in Korea and suggested that the humanistic education in Korea shall be oriented toward the realization of the learner’s ethical self. Lastly, the study pointed out that the education of human nature according to the core virtue and core competence as suggested by Law for the Stimulation of the Humanity Education does not guarantee the self-rule and practicability of the learner and then expressed that the humanity education can guarantee the self rule and practicability of the student only when the study method of Jeong Je-du’s “the mind is the principle” and “the unity of knowledge and action” is used for the humanity education.

본 연구는 정제두 철학에 관한 연구의 저변을 확대하고, 정제두의 철학을 현대적으로조명하기 위한 목적을 가지고 있다. 그리고 그 목적 달성을 위해 최근 그 교육적 필요성과중요성이 부각되고 있는 인성교육에 있어 정제두 철학이 가지는 인성교육적 의의와 연구의 필요성을 찾는 작업을 진행하였다. 과정으로 먼저 정제두 철학에 입각하여 인성을 어떻게 정의내릴 수 있는지에 대해 먼저밝히는 것으로 시작하여 정제두 철학에서의 인간의 본성 즉 인성(人性)의 의미를 영명성(靈明性)과 도덕성(道德性)으로 파악하였다. 그리고 정제두가 세유(世儒)의 억압과 핍박에도 불구하고 ‘성인됨’이라는 공부의 본래적 목적을 회복시키기 위해 끊임없는 열정을보여준 학자임을 제시함으로써 현재 한국의 인성교육이 그 교육의 목적을 미래사회의 또다른 기능교육으로 보는 입장에 대하여 비판적 태도를 취하고 한국의 인성교육이 나아가야할 방향을 학습자의 도덕적 자아를 실현하는 것으로 제시하였다. 마지막으로 한국인성교육진흥법에서 제시하는 핵심덕목과 핵심역량에 따른 인성교육 방식이 학습자의 주체성과 실천성을 보장하지 못함을 지적하고 정제두의 심즉리와 지행합일의 공부법이 인성교육에 활용되었을 때 학생의 주체성과 실천성을 보장하는 인성교육 방법으로서 의의를 가짐을 드러내었다.
