This study takes some steps from the perspectives of a few Protestant Reformers such as Luther or Calvin in their relation to servant leadership to explore any possibility of its application to the situations of the contemporary Korean churches. Throughout such process, it aims to reveal a theological error regarding dualistic tendency within Korean churches and to discover a new methodologies which is able to approach various issues. To accomplish the above tasks, this study tries to explain the Reformation within its historical context without any bias of its limited relationship to the church. In other words, this study attempts to explain that the Protestant Reformation cannot be explored by the Christian point of view based on the church-centered idea, but it should be done in wider perspective including secular areas as the core for the Christian theology as well as spirituality. While this type of approach will provide a new concept of how to understand the spirituality and theology of the churches which follow the tradition of the Reformation, it also give another possibility of interrelation with servant leadership for the sake of overcoming many crises within the Korean churches as a whole. By this logical flow, this study will contribute to the academic development in related subjects and to the gradual challenge against some social issues that the Korean churches are encountering with a potential expectation of conjunction between spirituality and leadership.

본 연구는 노동과 직업에 대한 종교개혁자들의 이해를 바탕으로 종교개혁이 추구했던 영성의 배경과 방향을 탐색하고, 그 내용들을 서번트 리더십과 연계한 후 한국교회에 적용 가능한 구체적인 방안 연구로 귀결하는 일련의 과정을 밟기 위해 시작되었다. 그 과정을 통해 기독교 영성의 핵심가치가 종교개혁으로 전승되었음을 확인하고 종교개혁의 본래 정신으로부터 이탈한 한국교회의 이분법적 신학 오류를 영성과 리더십을 매개로 재정립하는 연구방법론을 시도했다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 우선 구약으로부터 시작되어 종교개혁에 다다른 된 영성의 기본 구조가 그 범위를 교회 안으로 제한하지 않는 특징을 지닌다는 사실을 설명했다. 즉 종교개혁이 야기한 변화가 성경 본연의 전통에 충실했으며 폐쇄적이고 배타적인 중세 가톨릭교회의 신학적, 영적 모순을 극복하고 기독교 복음의 영향력을 새롭게 한 교회내부의 개혁인 동시에 일상의 한복판으로 기독교 신학과 영성의 핵심가치들을 이동시킴으로써 교회생활 뿐 아니라 삶 전체를 아우르는 신앙의 활력을 되찾은 역사적 사건임을 기술했다. 그리고 이와 같은 종교개혁의 영성과 신학의 근본 속성과 달리 이분법적 세계관을 부활시켜 교회의 생명력을 약화시킨 한국교회의 오류가 서번트 리더십과의 연계를 통해 올바른 모습으로 회복 가능하다는 논리적 전개를 밟았다. 이런 논리적 도식에 따른 종교개혁자들의 주장은 종교개혁의 영성을 역사적 맥락과 연계하여 드러내는 학문적 효과 이외에 종교개혁의 본래 정신 대신 기득권 형성과 유지에 골몰하는 부끄러운 한국교회의 자화상에 경종을 울리는 계기로 활용할 수 있으며, 영성과 리더십을 하나로 융합하는 과정을 통해 실천신학의 연구방식의 지평을 확장하는 학문적 공헌을 기대할 수 있다.
