The objective of this study is to examine the in-depth significance about what experiences novice art therapist with artistic ability went through in the process of abandoning and agonizing about their professions. In-depth discussion sessions were held subject to 5 new art therapists for this. Collected data was analyzed in phenomenological research method of Giorgi. 139 semantic units, 26 converted semantic units, and 11 subordinate factors including these were deducted from this method. Consequently, 4 elements were drawn including 1) expectation of novice art therapist about the profession, 2) environment difficulties as novice art therapist, 3) personal difficulties as novice art therapist, 4) efforts to over come the abandonment of profession. This study has significance in the fact that it is not only focused on the abandonment in process of abandoning and agonizing about the profession of novice art therapist, but it is also focused on the part where it is in need of improvement centrally on the effort to overcome the abandonment problem. Also, it is expected that this study will provide fundamental data to create solution for novice art therapists to overcome the agony of abandonment and help understanding of the field so that they could keep the profession.

이 연구는 예술가적 역량을 가진 초보미술심리치료사들이 창작자이자 예술치료자로서의 직업적 포기고민 과정에서 어떠한 경험과 노력들을 하였는지에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 1개월 이상 3년미만의 경력을 가진 초보미술심리치료사 5명을 대상으로 심층면담을 진행하였다. 수집된 자료는Giorgi(2009)의 현상학적 연구방법으로 분석하였는데, 139개의 의미단위와 26개의 전환된 의미단위, 그리고 이를 포함하는 보다 상위의 개념인 11개의 하위구성요소들이 도출되었다. 그 결과는, 1) 초보미술심리치료사의 직업에 대한 기대, 2) 초보미술심리치료사가 경험하는 직무환경에서의 어려움, 3) 초보미술심리치료사의 개인적 어려움, 4) 초보미술심리치료사의 직업적 포기 극복을 위한 노력이라는 총 4개의 구성요소로 나타났다. 이 연구는 초보미술심리치료사들의 직업적 포기 고민 과정에서 포기 고민에만 초점을두지 않고 직업적 포기 극복을 위해 시도한 노력들을 중심으로 개선되어야 할 부분에 대해 살펴보았다는점에서 의의가 있다. 또한 본 연구를 통해 예술가적 역량을 가진 초보미술심리치료사들이 앞으로 창작자이자 예술치료자로서 직업을 지속적으로 영위할 수 있도록 미술심리치료분야의 이해를 돕고 직업적 포기 고민에 대처할 수 있는 방안을 위한 기초 자료로 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
