The purpose of this study is to analyze the status of college graduates qualification and analyze how it affects labor market performance of college graduates. In particular, we want to analyze the effect of the qualification by separating it into five types-national professional qualification, national technical qualification, certificated private qualification, private qualification, foreign qualification-on employment to provide the necessary information for the rational selection. The main empirical results of this study suggest that two out of three college graduates (62.2%) have one or more qualifications, and 1.84 qualifications per person on average. The average period of time spend by individual college graduates is about one year (11.5 months), and 7.7 months is spent to acquire one qualification on average. Moreover, the average investment cost for acquiring qualification is 829,000 won, and the average cost per qualification 540,000 won. The empirical result confirmed that there is positive effect of qualification that college graduates have acquired by investing considerable time and cost on getting a job. In addition, depending on types of qualifications there are different kinds of employment effect. However, it is confirmed that there is no wage premium effects of the retention of qualifications in college graduates, which is consistent with the previous studies.

이 연구의 목적은 대졸 청년층(29세 이하)의 자격증 투자 실태를 살펴보고, 자격증이 고용 (취업과 임금)에 어떤 영향을 미치는가를 분석하는 것이다. 특히, 자격증을 5가지 유형(국가전 문자격, 국가기술자격, 국가공인민간자격, 민간자격, 외국자격)으로 구분하여 분석함으로써 자 격증에 대한 합리적 선택에 필요한 정보를 제공하고자 하였다. 분석결과를 요약하면, 대학 청 년 3명 중 2명(62.2%)이 1개 이상의 자격증을 보유하고 있었고, 평균적으로는 개인당 1.84 개의 자격증을 보유하고 있었다. 자격증 취득을 위해 대졸 청년 개인이 투자한 기간은 평균적 으로 1년 정도(11.5개월)였으며, 자격증 1개를 취득하는데는 평균적으로 7.7개월이 투자되었 다. 자격증 취득을 위한 개인별 평균 투자비용은 82.9만원이며, 자격증 1개당 평균 비용은 54 만원이었다. 대졸 청년층이 상당한 시간과 비용을 투자하여 취득한 자격증은 취업에 긍정적인 영향을 주고 있음을 확인하였고, 보유하고 있는 자격증 유형에 따라 취업효과에 차이가 있음 을 추가적으로 발견하였다. 하지만, 대졸 청년층에서 자격증 보유에 따른 임금효과는 존재하지 않는 것으로 확인되었는데, 이러한 결과 또한 선행연구와 일치하는 것이다.
