The outstanding masters of Korean traditional arts have been gifted by innate talent and trained by the motive of acquired learning, not educated by a special program. Today, since the social situation of the gifted and talented education is different from the social culture and the education system of the past, the success and failure rate of this education rests upon the regulation on the standard, requisite, and evaluation which distinguish the gifted of Korean traditional arts. Thus, this study aimed to explore the direction of the gifted and talented education managing the curriculum and developing creativity under the similar background discovered from the traditional masters. Since the Japanese colonial period, Korean traditional music has not recovered its honor and has just remained in existence. The gifted and talented education of Korean traditional arts needs to perform a significant role to create and develop the superiority of the Korean cultural tradition. For this reason, these days, though overwhelming a Western social and educational system, this education should be more focused on cultivating creativity as well as Korean cultural identity and historicity rather than relying on the theory and system of the gifted and talented education originated from Western education. Therefore, the gifted and talented education of Korean traditional arts needs to study the master training system originating from Korean history and apply these results to developing the policy and curriculum of the education of the present.

전통예술분야에 뛰어난 명인들은 어려서부터 지금과 같은 영재교육을 받으며 자란 것이 아니라 선천적으로 주어진 환경 속에서 그 분야의 영재성을 자연스럽게 물려받아 후천적 학습 동기들에 의 해 양성된 것이다. 오늘날 영재교육은 과거 전통사회의 문화, 교육 등의 학습의 장이 다르므로 전통 예술 영재교육의 대상이 되는 전통예술 영재성의 판별 기준, 요소, 평가 등의 규정에 따라 전통예술 영재교육의 성패가 달려 있다고 본다. 따라서 본 연구는 전통예술 분야의 명인들의 영재성의 탐색 에서 드러난 판별 요소들을 통하여 전통예술 영재교육의 교육과정 운영과 창의성을 포함한 예술성 계발 교육을 위한 환경의 장이 조성된 정체성 있는 전통예술 영재교육의 방향을 찾고자 하였다. 본 연구를 통해 영재교육의 체계가 잡혀가고 있는 지금 영재교육의 역사적 전통성을 생각하지 않을 수 없다. 더더욱 전통예술교육이 일제 강점기 이후, 지금까지 회복되지 못하여 우리 문화로서 자리 매김은커녕 명맥만 겨우 유지하고 있는 실정이다. 걸음마 단계에 있는 전통예술 분야의 영재 교육은 우리 문화의 우수성을 계승 발전시키며 전통예술 문화의 새로운 창조의 장을 여는 데 그 역할이 크다고 본다. 그러므로 우리나라의 정서와는 거리가 먼 서구식 영재교육의 체제와 이론을 대입하여 전통예술 영재교육을 하려고 한다면 우리 문화의 정체성과 역사성을 지닌 전통예술 영재 양성은 기대하기 어려울 것이다. 전통예술 영재 양성을 위한 교육과정, 교수법은 전통예술의 문화 형성에 배경이 된 전통예술관 속에서 개발되어야 한다. 따라서 우리나라 역사 속에서 존재했던 인 재관(人才觀)과 인재교육을 토대로 전통예술 영재 교육 연구와 더불어 전통예술 영재 양성 교육에 대한 지원과 정책이 끊임없이 이루어져야 할 것이다.
