Creating Korean music is literally to make Korean music with Korean musical language. Through creative activities of Korean music in music textbooks, students can cultivate creative musical expression and creativity as well as succeed in the unique musical characteristics combining music and language transmitted in Korea. Therefore, this study analyzes the creative activities to include Korean musical characteristics presented in the music textbooks of Korean middle schools according to the Revised Music Curriculum of 2007. It also aims at exploring the problem and the reasonable direction of creative Korean music composition in the books. The creative activities in Korean music are challenged by using the terminology and notation of Western music. Moreover, ‘minyopung’ which is considered to be the new song style in regards to traditional Korean folk songs, has been composed by the creative techniques of Western music like time signatures and the solmization ‘sol, la, do, re, mi’ of the pentatonic scale. The creative activities of the books did not include original Korean musical characteristics, for example, jangdan, malbutchimsae, traditional notation, and Korean musical notes. As a result, this study explores the proper approaches to making Korean music in the music textbooks for Korean middle schoolers. Therefore, this paper suggests that the creative activities for making Korean music be presented by traditional Korean notation in jeongganbo or garakseon and that they describe the detailed musical terms of Korean music. In addition, this study expects to continue the creative activities in the music textbooks which may lead students to become interested in creating Korean music using the musical characteristics of Korean music as well as to enjoy creating Korean music.

국악창작이란 말 그대로 우리의 음악 어법에 따라 우리 음악을 창조하는 것이다. 국악창작활동을 통해 학생들의 음악적 표현력과 창의성을 함양시키는 동시에, 이 땅에서 전승되어온 한국음악의 고 유한 특성을 파악하고 창조적으로 계승하는 교육적 효과를 함께 가질 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 2007년 개정 교육과정에 따른 중학교의 음악교과서의 국악 창작 활동과 내용들이 우리 음악 어법 에 맞게 제시되어 있는지를 분석하여 문제점을 중심으로 살펴보고 음악교과서의 올바른 방향을 탐 색하는데 목적을 두었다. 국악창작활동에서 가장 큰 문제점은 제시된 악보가 오선보로 되어 있어 음악 용어나 표기방법이 서양식으로 표현일 수밖에 없다는 것이다. 그리고 ‘민요풍’이라는 말을 사용하면서 서양음악창작 기 법을 이용하여 국악창작은 단순히 오선지 위에 주어진 박자표에 맞춰 ‘솔, 라, 도, 레, 미’의 5음 음계의 음들로 채워 가는 것으로 제시되고 있었다. 따라서 국악어법에 맞는 방법으로 국악창작활동 이 이루어질 수 있도록 교과서의 국악창작내용이 개편될 필요가 있으며, 이를 위해서는 우리의 전 통 악보인 정간보와 가락선 악보를 사용하고 국악용어로 설명해야 한다. 또한 노랫말과 장단, 가락 이 유기적인 관계임을 인지하고 단일 요소의 변형으로 제시하기 보다는 요소들이 모두 결합되어 체 계적인 형태로 구성되어야 한다. 앞으로 이와 같은 연구가 계속 이루어져 중학교 음악교과서에 국 악어법에 맞는 국악창작활동이 제시되길 기대한다.
