The music curriculum according to the Revised Curriculum of 2009 was written by accepting the changes of the Revised Music Curriculum of 2009 as well as the national and social demands and supplementation of the current music curriculum. In that the revised curriculum is under the regular revision system, we can expect a curriculum aimed at the qualitative elevation of Korean music education as stressed by the current curriculum. In addition, the strengthening of national identity education becomes a basis for realistic Korean music education. In ‘Realm and Criteria of Contents’, like in the current curriculum, the terms of Korean music are actively suggested, and musical elements and concepts are expanded for all students or are taught at different levels depending on the school years. Within the ‘Teaching Method’, also, various activities and teaching methods helping students understand the original shapes of Korean music are suggested. It can be seen that the revised curriculum was prepared to come closer to the normalization of Korean music education by the revision direction of the current curriculum which stresses the qualitative elevation of Korean music education and by correcting and supplementing it. However, more properly comprehensive terms should be suggested as the criteria for such achievement in order to minimize the confusion in schools and to be effective. In addition, more diverse examples of learning activities should be prepared.

2009 개정 교육과정에 따른 음악과 교육과정은 2009 개정 교육과정 체제에 따라 문서 체제 및 각 항목별 특징의 변화와 함께 국가ㆍ사회적 요구 및 현행 음악과 교육과정에 대한 보완 요구를 수용하면서 개정되었다. ‘수시 개정 체제’ 하의 교육과정이라는 점에서 현행 교육과정이 강조한 ‘국악교육의 질적 제고’를 최대한으로 이루고자 한 교육과정을 기대할 수 있으며, 또한 국가ㆍ사회적 요구 사항 중 하나인 ‘국가정체성 교육’의 강화는 국악 교육이 보다 내실 있게 이루어질 수 있는 음악과 교육과정 구성의 근거가 된다. ‘내용의 영역과 기준’ 항은 현행 교육과정과 마찬가지로 국악 용어가 적극 제시되면서도 국악 관련 음악 요소 및 개념이 전 학년의 지도 요소로 확대되거나 학년군별로 수준 차를 두어 위계화 하 였고, ‘교수ㆍ학습 방법’ 항 역시 국악 본연의 모습과 특징을 이해할 수 있는 다양한 활동들과 지도 법이 제시되었다. 즉, 2009 개정 교육과정에 따른 음악과 교육과정은 ‘국악교육의 질적 제고’를 내 세운 2007년 개정 교육과정의 개정 방향을 유지하면서도 이를 수정․보완함으로써 국악교육 정상 화를 위해 한 걸음 더 나아가고자 하였음을 알 수 있다. 다만 내용제시 방식의 변화, 즉 포괄적 수준으로 제시한 ‘성취 기준’이 학교 현장에 미칠 수 있는 혼란을 최소화하고 실효성을 거두기 위해서는 보다 포괄성을 지닌 적절한 용어가 성취 기준으로 제 시되어야 하며, 더불어 더욱 더 다양한 학습 활동 예시가 마련되어야 할 것이다.
