For music appreciation class at elementary school level, the activities should involve a number of senses such as moving the body and using the voice rather than just passively listening to music. In some contexts, this study examines activities based on an activity-oriented curriculum through an advanced study regarding Korean music appreciation. The study also analyzes the state of Korean music appreciation teaching methods and the condition of the curriculum as revised in 2007 including elementary school textbooks. As a result, it was revealed that body expression, playing an instrument, singing a song, adding chuimsae and making music have a high frequency of use, in this order, among activities used in music appreciation. In addition, more than one activity was involved in 41% of all the appreciation classes using certain specific textbooks but we could guess (hat the other textbooks were of lower importance to the over-emphasis on the use of some of the textbooks. We expect that it would be helpful to make the characteristic of Korean music easier and more understandable if some improvement of activity-oriented appreciation teaching method as suggested in the textbook is implemented.

초등학교에서의 음악 감상은 악곡을 피동적으로 듣기만 하기 보다는 신체를 움직이거나 목소리를 활용하는 등 몸의 여러 감각을 활용한 활동이 이루어져야 한다. 그러한 맥락으로 본 연구는 국악 감상에 관한 선행 연구를 통해 활동 중심의 감상 활동을 살펴보고, 2007년 개정 교육과정 및 교과용 도서의 초등학교 국악 감상 지도 방법의 실태를 분석하였다. 그 결과 감상에 활용하는 활동 중 신체 표현하기, 악기 연주하기, 노래 부르기, 추임새 넣기, 음악 만들기 순으로 활용의 빈도가 높았다. 또한 모든 교과서를 합한 감상 수업 전체의 41%에서 한 가지 이상의 활동이 이루어지는 것으로 나타났지만, 일부 교 과서에 편중되어 있어서 나머지 교과서는 더 비중이 낮음을 짐작할 수 있다. 교과서에 제시된 활동 중심의 감상 지도 방법도 몇 가지 개선점이 보완된다면 국악의 특성을 보다 쉽게 이해하 는 데 도움이 될 것으로 기대한다.
