The jangdan of Korean songs are generally approached by the jangdan patterns of accompanying to the janggu. These jangdan patterns do not always conform to those of their accompaniments. Thus it is important to apprehend their jangdan patterns for understanding the music. To achieve these, the patterns adding the notes to compose the melody of each jangdan can be examined. In case of the songs having their texts, the jangdan of the songs can be understood by their Mal-butchimsae. For this reason, the approach to these Mal-butchimsae must be preceded before applying their melodies, and this method can be useful to understand their melodies and jangdan. The aim of this study examines the Mal-butchimsae of Korean songs, for example, the traditional children songs, folk songs, sijo included in the music textbooks of Korean elementary and the secondary schools, and proposes these approaches for applying to the teaching and learning activities. Consequently, this paper suggests the Mal-Butchimsae to be approached in the relation between the meanings of the texts and the jangdan of the songs. From these approaches, the meanings of the texts and the jangdan of the songs can be better understood. In addition, the Mal-Butchimsae needs to be approached by the relation between the numbers and meaning structures of their words. Furthermore, the Mal-Butchimsae of Yukjabaeki or sijo have been structured by the standard patterns, and can be sung hundreds of other texts by the understands of the jangdan. The author expects the understandings of these Mal-Butchimsae characteristics to help to learn Korean songs and create new songs.

국악 성악곡의 장단 학습은 일반적으로 장구 반주 장단형으로 지도되고 있다. 악곡의 장단형은 반주 장단형과 일치되는 경우도 있으나 반드시 일정한 반주 장단형으로 되어 있지 않다는 점이다. 그러므로 악곡의 장단을 파악하는 것은 악곡을 이해하는 중요한 학습 요소이다. 악곡 자체의 장단 을 파악하기 위해서는 먼저 장단 안에 가락을 이루는 음들의 붙임새 유형을 살펴야 한다. 단, 노랫 말이 있는 성악곡의 경우 말붙임새를 통해 악곡의 장단을 이해할 수 있다. 따라서 성악곡 지도 시 말붙임새는 가락을 익히기 전에 선행되어야 할 지도 요소이며, 가락의 흐 름과 장단을 파악하는 데 많은 도움이 된다. 본 연구는 초등학교, 중학교 가창 제재곡으로 수록된 전래동요, 민요, 시조 등의 말붙임새를 살펴보고 이를 교수․학습에 적용할 수 있는 지도 방향을 제시해 보았다. 말붙임새 지도는 노랫말의 의미와 장단과의 관계 속에서 이루어져야 한다. 즉 말붙 임새 지도를 통해 노랫말의 의미 전달과 악곡의 장단을 파악할 수 있다. 또한 말붙임새는 장단에 따라 노랫말의 붙임새와 노랫말의 자수에 따른 붙임새 유형과 장단 단위에 따른 노랫말의 의미체계 가 관련되어 있음을 지도해야 한다. 또한 시조나 육자배기 등의 말붙임새는 정형화된 틀에 의해 악 곡이 구조화되어 있으므로 말붙임새의 기본형을 이해해야만 수십 수백편의 노랫말을 얹어 부를 수 있다. 따라서 말붙임새 특징을 이해하고 지도한다면 가창 제재곡의 학습 단계에서 말붙임새를 통한 악곡의 장단을 이해하고 이를 창작 활동에 적용하는 데 도움이 되리라 본다.
