The revised national curriculum requires the development of new music textbooks. After a brief survey of Gukak notation methods in current music textbooks, this study offers suggestions for new, more desirable methods to be implemented in middle school textbooks for the fulfillment of objectives of the Revised Curriculum of 2007. First, survey results indicate that the current textbooks of middle schools rely mainly on staff notation as well as Jeongganbo, Guerimakbo (painting notation), Garakseonbo (melody line notation), and the textbooks of high schools employs Graphic notation (tone cluster notation of pointillism). These are the Jeongganbo, Guerimakbo, Garakseonbo commonly used in elementary school texts. Second, because staff notation is less suitable to Gukak, Korean music as it is to Western music, we recommend greater use of Jeongganbo, Guerimakbo (Painting notation), Garakseonbo (Melody line notation), and Graphic notation. Third, when staff notation is used, key, meter, and sigimsae must be carefully considered in order to retain the authentic qualities of the Gukak material. Fourth, although a horizontal line Jeongganbo is more commonly used than a perpendicular line Jeongganbo, we must carefully consider name, oral sound, compass, and sigimsae to retain authentic qualities of Jeongganbo notation.

2007 개정 교육과정에 의한 교과서에 수록할 국악 제재곡의 기보방안을 탐색하고 그 방향과 대책을 마련 하는 일은 매우 시급하다고 본다. 이 글에서는 제7차 교육과정에 의한 중등교과서에 사용 된 국악 제재곡 기보법을 개관하여보고 그 문제점을 파악함으로써 개정 교육과정 교과서에는 과연 어떠한 정도의 범위와 수준에서 국악 기보법을 사용하는 것이 바람직한 지에 대하여 살펴본 바, 그 현황과 개발방안을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 현행 중학교 음악교과서 중 국악 제재곡의 기보법으로는 오선보, 정간보, 그림악보, 가락선보 등이 사용되었고, 고등학교 음악과 생활에는 그래프보(일명 톤클러스터 점묘악보)가 쓰이고 있음을 파악하였 다. 그리고 초등학교 3~6학년 음악교과서 국악 제재곡에는 오선보, 정간보, 가락선보가 각각 사용되었음 을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 오선보 사용으로 편중된 국악 기보법을 새로운 방식의 기보법으로 개발하여야 하는데, 정간보, 그림 악보, 가락선보, 그래프보 등이 그 대안이다. 셋째, 기존의 오선보 사용에 있어서도 음고, 조표, 박자표, 시김새 등 오선보 기보의 체계화를 모색해야한 다. 넷째, 세로 정간보 이외에 가로 정간보를 적극 활용하되, 정간보 사용시 율명, 구음, 음역, 시김새 등 정간 보 기보의 체계화를 모색해야한다.
