Understanding cultural tradition is the valuable first step for prosperity of cultural heritage. Accordingly, cultural education in school needs to show the whole and detailed pictures of the past, which include the real life of ancestors and the process of cultural development, instead of simple lists. For the celebration ceremony for successful candidate of Gwa-Geo which is the state examination ceremony during Joseon dynasty embraces the diverse features of the period, it is considered as a precious cultural heritage itself. It is also valued as an important teaching material because it contains the spirit of the age: Yoo-ga, the oriental political ideology; Hyo, the filial piety and obedience to the parents; and others such as musical preference of the age. Therefore, in expectation of helping students to get the overall concepts of cultural tradition and to beware of the importance of ancestral legacy, this study reconstructs the ceremony for elementary level students and establish the concrete teaching method.

우리에게 전해진 소중한 우리 문화를 우리 세대에서 한 단계 더 발전시키는 일의 시작은 먼저 우리 문화에 대하여 제 대로 아는 것에서부터 출발해야 한다. 이를 위해 학교교육은 우리나라의 문화에 대하여 그 이름만을 소개하는 수준이 아닌, 우리 조상들이 그것을 어떻게 형성ㆍ발전시키고, 생활 속에서 어떤 모습으로 즐겨왔는지 그 전체적인 모습을 보 여 주어야 한다. 과거 급제 행사 속에는 조선시대의 정치 이념과 효 사상을 비롯한 우리 조상들의 정신, 음악 문화 등 우리나라 문화의 전체적인 모습이 담겨있어 그 자체가 소중한 문화유산이자 훌륭한 학습 자료이다. 이에 조선시대 과거 급제 행사 중 유가(遊街)를 중심으로 관련 교육과정 내용을 분석하여 사회ㆍ음악의 교과통학학습으로 지도방안을 제시해보았다. 이를 통해 사라져 가는 우리 문화에 관심을 가지고, 이를 지켜나가려는 노력이 활발해 지기를 기대해본다.
