The modern society emphasizes the importance of creativity more than ever and the educational method that can induce children to think creatively is also quite important in the art education for children. The purpose of this study is to contribute to the development of children’s creativity and expressive skills in art through an educational program that combines traditional songs and children’s artistic activities. The review of preceding studies and literatures confirmed that the integrated learning combining music and art is effective for arousing children’s interest and enhancing their ability to think. Among many branches of music, traditional Korean songs which maintain Korean sentiment and sense of values and express children’s life humorously are considered to help children to develop their unlimited imagination and creativity when combined in the art class and also to understand Korean culture and sentiment, giving positive impact on learning their identity. This study intended to conduct a program which combines traditional songs and art with an aim to provide whole-person education through the development of creativity in children and the cultivation of their emotion based on this theoretical knowledge. For this, traditional songs were divided into 17 categories depending on their functionality and songs that are familiar to children and are fun to sing were selected, one from each category and incorporated into various art programs, respectively. Art programs used different expressive techniques for each song to give various experiences in each discipline of art such as painting, craft, printing, and design as proposed in the teaching plan. Through the program it was possible to find that the art education program for children using traditional songs can arouse children’s interest, extend their creativity, and enhance their perception and thinking. In conclusion, the art education program for children using traditional songs devised in this study was effective for arousing children’s interest, enhancing their ability to think, and developing their creativity. This can be regarded as a proof that the use of traditional songs in children’s education is quite appropriate. Therefore, much is expected of the role of the art education program for children using traditional songs in the search of learning methods aiming to enhance creativity and expressive skills

현대 사회에서는 어느 때보다 창의성의 중요성을 강조하고 있으며 아동미술교육에 있어서도 아동들의 창 의적인 발상을 유도 할 수 있는 교육의 구상이 무엇보다 중요하다고 볼 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 전래동요와 아동미술활동을 연계한 통합교육 프로그램을 통해서 아동들의 창의력과 미술 표현능력의 개발 에 기여하는 데 있다. 기존의 선행연구와 여러 문헌을 통해 음악과 미술의 통합적 학습이 아동들의 흥미를 유발시키고 상상력과 사고력을 향상시키는데 효과적임을 확인할 수 있었다. 음악의 다양한 분류 중에서도 전래동요는 한국의 정서와 가치관이 그대로 녹아있고 아동들의 생활모습이 해학적으로 표현되어 있어 미 술과 통합수업을 구성하였을 때 아동들에게 무한한 상상력과 창의성을 발달시켜줄 뿐만 아니라 우리나라 문화와 정서의 이해를 도울 수 있어 아동들의 정체성 교육에도 긍정적인 영향을 끼친다는 것을 알 수 있 다. 이와 같은 이론적 지식을 바탕으로 본 연구자는 아동들의 창의성을 개발과 정서함양을 통한 전인교육 을 실천을 위해 전래동요와 미술을 통합하여 교육을 진행하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 전래동요를 기능의 유 무에 따라 17가지의 종류로 분류하고 아동들에게 익숙하고 재미있는 곡을 분류별로 한곡씩 선정하였다. 선 정된 곡들은 다양한 미술프로그램과 각각 연계시켜 동요마다 각기 다른 미술의 표현기법을 활용하여 총 17개의 프로그램을 교육 계획안으로 제시하였다. 이와 같은 전래동요를 활용한 아동미술교육 프로그램을 진행한 결과 아동들에게 흥미유발과 및 창의력의 신장과 인지력, 사고력 향상에 도움을 줄 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 결론적으로 본 연구에서 구성한 전래동요를 활용한 아동미술교육 활동은 아동의 흥미유발과 구 상능력향상 및 창의성 발달에 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 아동교육에 전래동요의 활용이 매 우 적합함을 입증 한 것이라 할 수 있다. 따라서 앞으로 창의력과 표현능력을 신장시키는 학습 방법을 모 색하는데 전래동요를 활용한 아동미술교육 프로그램이 적극적으로 활용될 것을 기대해 본다.
