Although there are various studies on the trust of police, there are few comparative studies on this topic among different nations. In particular, it is different to find comparative students based on questionnaire surveys for citizens or students. This study aims to suggest ways to enhance the trust of our police through a comparative study with China, which is our important neighbor and friendly nation. The respondents of this study were college students. There were 300 respondents from each country, and the total number of the respondents was 600. Korean respondents are form Daejeon University, Kongju University and Shinsung University. Chinese respondents are from Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing Forestry University, Jining Normal University and Hetao University. The independent variables, which were the factors affecting the trust of police, included police responsibilities, kindness, integrity, effectiveness, and citizen cooperation. The dependent variable was the trust of police. In addition, this study used some variables of sociology of population such as gender, age, department, grade, resident period and military service as control variables. This study analyzed the effects of five independent variables mentioned above on the trust of police. The results showed that these four factors which were police responsibilities, kindness, effectiveness and citizen cooperation significantly affected the trust of police. Therefore, a proposal about how to improve police responsibilities, kindness, effectiveness and citizen cooperation is needed to enhance the trust of police.

경찰 신뢰도에 대한 다양한 연구가 존재하지만 지금까지 경찰 신뢰도의 국가간 비교연구는 많지 않을뿐만 아니라 국가간 시민이나 학생을 대상으로 설문자료를 토대로 비교 검증하는 연구는 찾아보기 어렵다, 이 연구는 우리나라와 이웃국가이며 중요한 우방인 중국과의 비교연구를 통하여 우리 경찰의 신뢰도를 향상시키는 방안을 제시하고자 한다. 이 연구의 조사대상자는 우리나라의 경우 대전대학교, 공주대학교, 신성대학교에서 재학중인 대학생 300명과 중국의 경우 베이징리공대학교, 베이징린예대학교, 지닝스판대학교, 흐타오대학교에서 재학중인 대학생 300명 등의 총 600명이고, 경찰 신뢰도에의 영향요인인 독립변수는 경찰책임성, 친절성, 청렴성, 효과성, 시민의 협력 등의 5개 변수이고, 종속변수는 경찰에 대한 신뢰도이다. 또한, 통제변수로서 인구사회학적 변수인 성별, 연령, 학과, 학년, 거주기간, 군(軍)복무 여부를 투입하였다. 경찰 신뢰도에의 영향요인인 5개 독립변수가 종속변수인 경찰에 대한 신뢰도에 어떤 영향을 미치는 지에 대하여 분석한 결과, 경찰 책임성, 친절성, 효과성, 시민의 협력 등이 경찰 신뢰도의 인식에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서, 경찰 신뢰도를 향상시키기 위해서는 경찰 책임성, 친절성, 효과성, 시민의 협력차원의 개선방안을 마련하여 시행할 필요가 있다.
