Vessel Traffic Services(VTS) is a means of marine traffic management for enhancing the safety and efficiency of marine transportation and protecting marine environment and marine facilities. In Republic of Korea, VTS has been implemented since 1993. A total of 18 VTS centers now provide safety information to vessels navigating the harbor and coast. It will be continuously expanded. As VTS develops, related studies are actively carried out. The purpose of this study was to investigate the trends of vessel traffic services research conducted by Korea Coast Guard and to set up research directions for future academic development. 78 papers related to VTS were analyzed based on the characteristics of the papers, the characteristics of the researchers, the research fields and the research methods using the Korea Citation Index. The results of the study are as follows. First, a published article number go on increasing in proportion to publication year. Second, the major disciplines were agricultural and marine and engineering, and joint research was the main focus. Third, there have been more and more papers recently received from the government and public institutions. Fourth, the researchers were the most professors of the university, and Busan was the most in the area. Fifth, the field of research was 69.2% in vessel traffic services operation and the method of research was 64.1% experiment, design and observation.

선박교통관제는 선박교통의 안전 및 효율성을 증진하고 해양환경과 해양시설을 보호하기 위한 해상교통관리 수단으로서 우리나라에서는 1993년부터 서비스를 시행 하고 있다. 지금은 총 18개의 해상교통관제센터가 항만과 연안을 항해하고 있는 선 박들에게 안전 정보를 제공하고 있으며, 지속적으로 확대 구축될 예정이다. 선박교통 관제의 발전과 더불어 관련 연구들도 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 해 양경찰청에서 시행하고 있는 선박교통관제 관련 연구의 경향을 살펴보고, 향후 학문 적 발전을 위한 연구 방향을 설정하기 위함이다. 한국학술지인용색인을 활용하여 선 박교통관련 논문 78편을 논문의 특성, 연구자의 특성, 연구영역 및 연구방법을 기준 으로 분석하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 게재연도에 비례하여 연구논문의 게재 편수가 증 가하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 주요 학문분야는 농수해양학과 공학이었으며, 공동연 구가 주를 이루었다. 셋째, 최근 들어 정부와 공공기관으로부터 연구비 지원을 받고 있는 논문이 늘고 있었다. 넷째, 연구자는 대학교의 교수가 가장 많은 수를 차지하였 으며, 지역은 부산이 가장 많았다. 다섯째, 연구 영역은 관제기획․운영 분야가 69.2%, 연구 방법의 경우 실험/설계/관측연구가 64.1%로 가장 많은 것으로 조사되었다.
