This study was conducted to identify elementary school students’ perceptions of career assessments and its problems, and provide recommendations accordingly. In order to do so, this study surveyed fifth and sixth-grade students on the perceptions, use and problems of career assessments, and analyzed the data descriptively and by using t-test. The main arguments of the research are as follows. First, 87.8% of the students had taken career assessments before with the most frequent tests being career aptitude tests, career development tests, and vocational interest tests. Second, perceptions on career assessments were lower than average indicating that students found the tests to be difficult, while there were no significant differences between genders or grades. Third, help received through explanations during the tests were perceived to be higher than average, with fifth graders and female students receiving more help when compared against sixth graders and male students respectively. Fourth, career assessments were used most frequently by the students themselves, followed by to counsel with parents, to exchange information with friends, and consult with teachers. Fifth, the importance of career assessments and the perceptions of students on how useful it was in their career decision were above average, and in particular, female students found it more useful than their male counterparts. Sixth, students responded that the questionnaire should be more easily structured, and the interpretations of the assessment more detailed in order to improve the current assessments. Seventh, regarding the differences in career development based on how the assessments were used, students who had consulted with parents, teachers, siblings and among friends were found to show significantly higher level of career development.

이 연구는 초등학교 진로검사에 대한 학생의 인식 및 문제점을 파악하고 이에 따른 시사점을 제공하기 위해 실시하였다. 이를 위해 초등학교 5, 6학년 학생을 대상으로 진로검사에 대한 인식, 활용현황 및 문제점을 설문조사하였으며 기술통계, t검정 기법을 사용하여 분석하였다. 이 연구의 주요한 논의 사항은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 진로검사의 경험이 있는 학생이 87.8%로 높게 나타났으며. 직업적성검사, 진로발달검사, 직업흥미검사의 순으로 많이 받아 본 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 진로검사에 대한 느낌은 보통보다 낮게 나타나 어려운 편으로 인식하고 있었으며 성별과, 학년에 따른 차이는 없었다. 셋째, 진로검사 실시 시 설명의 도움정도는 보통보다 높게 나타났으며 6학년 보다는 5학년, 남학생보다는 여학생이 더 도움을 받고 있다고 응답하였다. 넷째, 진로검사의 활용은 혼자서 한다는 응답이 가장 많았으며, 부모와의 상담, 친구들 간 정보교류, 교사와의 상담 순으로 높게 나타났다. 다섯째, 진로검사의 중요성과 진로선택 등에 있어서 얼마나 도움이 되는지는 모두 보통 이상 수준으로 응답하였으며 특히, 여학생의 경우 남학생보다 도움이 된다는 점수가 유의미하게 높았다. 여섯째, 진로검사가 개선되어야 할 점으로는 문항내용이 더 쉽게 구성되어야 하고, 검사의 해석이 자세히 이루어져야 한다는 응답이 높게 나타났다. 일곱째, 진로검사 활용별 진로발달의 차이검정 결과 부모, 교사, 형제자매와의 상담, 친구들 간의 정보교류를 통해 활용한 학생들의 진로발달수준이 유의미하게 높았다.
