The following paper is a phenomenological study conducted in order to research the details and meaning behind the training experience of Guided Imagery and Music(GIM) therapy by music therapists. Six music therapists who have all completed the training participated in this study and data were gathered through depth interview. Date were analyzed by using phenomenological research method of the Giorgi. The data analysis drew a total of 7 domains and 22 sub-domains. Research results have shown that the participants start the training with ‘resolutions for personal issues’ and ‘music therapist growth motivations’. At the start of the training, the participants had 'fear of self confrontation', 'doubts over its application', 'will to learn' and others. And, after experiencing ‘imagery and the power of music’, ‘personal change and professionalism’ were achieved through the integration of various training experiences.

이 연구의 목적은 음악치료사들이 심상음악치료(Guided Imagery and Music: GIM) 훈련 과정에서 경험한 내용과 그 의미를 탐구하고자 하는 것이다. 훈련 과정을 모두 이수한 음악치료사 6명을 심층 면접했고, 이를 통해 수집된 자료를 Giorgi의 방법으로 분석하여 총 7개 상위 범주와 22개 하위 범주를 도출했다. 연구 결과 참여자들은 ‘개인적 이슈 해결’과 ‘치료사로서의 성장 동기’ 등을 가지고 훈련을 시작하여, 초기에는 ‘자기 직면에 대한 두려움’, ‘임상 적용 가능성에 대한 의구심’, ‘배움에 대한 의지’ 등을 가지고 있었다. 그리고 훈련 과정에서 ‘심상과 음악의 힘’을 체험하고 다양한 훈련 경험들을 통합하는 과정에서 ‘개인적 변화’와 ‘치료사로서의 전문성’을 성취한 것으로 나타났다.
