This is a descriptive study to investigate the research-related activities and perceived barriers to research utilization among music therapists in Korea. For the study, the online survey link was e-mailed to music therapists who have completed professional music therapy education courses. The questionnaire consisted of individual characteristics, research-related activities, and perceived barriers to research utilization. To identify music therapists’ perception of barriers to research utilization, the BARRIERS Scale was used. The data from 160 respondents were analyzed and the results were as follows. First, the level of active research-related activities were low while the respondents involved a high degree of attendance at academic conferences and experience of taking research courses. Second, a significant difference was found between research-related activities and educational attainment, working type, clinical experiences, and clinical setting. Third, the result from the BARRIERS Scale indicated that Organizational and Communication factors are perceived as most disturbing to utilize research in their clinical practice. The top 5 barriers were ‘the facilities are inadequate’, ‘absence of documentation to change practice’, ‘a linguistic barriers to English’, ‘unclear implications for practice’, and ‘the results are regarded as problem with generalization for clinical settings’. Fourth, there was a significantly difference between educational attainment and Communication factor. Fifth, there was significantly difference between the perception of barriers level and attendance of academic conferences, publication in research articles, and frequency of reading Korean articles. Last, those who had no experience with publishing the research and never to read the English research articles were regard difficulty with understanding the research reports written by English. These results suggest the need for self-training and organizational education strategies to enhance the research utilization of music therapists in Korea.

이 연구는 국내 음악치료사의 연구 관련 활동과 그들이 인식하는 임상에서의 연구 결과 활용 장애요인을 알아보기 위한 서술적 조사연구이다. 학사 졸업 이상의 음악치료 전문 교육과정을 이수한 국내 음악치료사를 대상으로 2017년 1월 18일부터 2월 21일까지 온라인 설문 링크를 통하여 개인적 특성, 연구 관련 활동과 그들이 인식하는 연구 활용 장애요인을 조사하였다. 대상자의 연구 활용 장애요인에 대한 인식은 BARRIERS Scale로 측정하였다. 총 160명의 자료를 SPSS 23.0으로 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대상자의 학회 가입률, 학회 참석 여부, 연구법 수업 이수 여부는 높은 편이나, 보다 직접적이고 능동적인 연구 관련 활동은 낮은 편이었다. 둘째, 대상자의 학력과 근무형태, 임상경력, 근무환경에 따라 연구 관련 활동 수준의 유의미한 차이가 있었다. 셋째, 대상자가 인식하는 연구 활용 장애요인은 조직 특성과 의사소통 특성에서 높게 나타났다. 특히 연구 활용을 위한 제반 시설 부족, 연구 활용에 대한 공식적 요구의 부재, 영어에 대한 언어적 장벽, 연구 결론의 명확하지 않은 임상적 적용 제시, 일반화의 어려움에 대한 장애인식 수준이 높았다. 넷째, 대상자의 학력에 따라 연구 활용 장애요인 중 의사소통 특성의 유의미한 차이가 나타났다. 다섯째, 대상자의 학회 가입여부, 연구 발표 경험, 국내 연구 논문 읽는 빈도에 따라 연구 활용 장애요인 척도의 전체 또는 하위 특성 평균 점수가 유의미한 차이를 보였다. 여섯째, 연구 발표 경험이 없거나 국외 연구를 전혀 읽지 않는 대상자들이 영어로 된 논문에 대한 어려움을 상대적으로 높게 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 국내 음악치료사의 연구 활용을 위한 자기학습 및 조직 차원에서의 교육에 대한 필요성을 시사한다.
