The purpose of this study was to analyze the research trends and issues of elementary school counseling in the ‘Korean Journal of Elementary Counseling’, published by the Korean Elementary Counselor Education Association, between 2002 and 2016 and to suggest future research directions. A total of 236 articles were analyzed with regard to researchers, research topics, research participants, research methods, and statistical analysis methods. The results of the study were as follows. First, 40.7% of the researchers worked at universities and 59.3% worked as elementary school teachers. Second, the main research topics were “outcome studies” (34.3%), “personality and adjustment studies” (19.9%), ‘theoretical studies” (12.7%), and ‘instrument developing studies” (9.7%) respectively. Third, research participants were ‘elementary school students’ (83.7%), teachers (6.8%), and parents (1.1%). Fourth, in terms of research methods, 70.8% of the researches were conducted as quantitative studies, which was considerably higher than mixed studies (14.9%) and qualitative studies (14.4%). The implications of these results and suggestions for the development of elementary school counseling research were discussed.

이 연구는 한국초등상담교육학회의 학회지인 ‘초등상담연구’에 게재된 논문을 분류 준거에 따라 분석하여 초등학교 상담의 연구 동향을 파악하고 향후 연구에 대한 제언을 하는 것에 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 2002년부터 2016년까지 ‘초등상담연구’에 게재된 논문 236편을 대상으로 3명의 평정자가 연구자 소속, 연구주제, 연구대상, 연구방법에 대한 분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연구자 소속은 국내 대학교에 소속된 대학 교수가 40.7%, 초등학교 교사가 59.3%를 차지하였다. 둘째, 연구주제는 성과연구(34.3%), 성격 및 적응연구(19.9%), 이론연구(12.7%), 척도 개발연구(9.7%)의 순이었다. 셋째, 연구대상은 초등학생(83.7%)이 가장 많았고, 교사, 상담자, 학부모를 대상으로 한 연구는 모두 합해 10% 이하로 나타났다. 넷째, 연구방법은 양적연구(70.8%)가 양·질적 혼합연구(14.9%)와 질적연구(14.4%)에 비해 많았으며, 양적 통계분석에서는 변량분석 계열, 질적연구 분석에서는 사례분석이 가장 많게 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과가 지니는 의미와 시사점 그리고 초등학교 상담 연구의 발전을 위한 방안을 제언하였다.
