This is to study the contribution to the development of Chejudo education and culture by the Jeju people Resident in Japan. My study can be summarized as follows. First, Jeju people Resident in Japan did help Chejudo region development from a provincial office, education office and city hall(county office) to the Eup, Myeon and Dong area. Second, they contributed to the establishment of Jeju Women`s School and Nam-nyong School to educate Chejudo young generation. Third, Jeju people Resident in Japan supported jeju society with wide range of educational facilities, and improve educational environment of Chejudo, they donated real estate, school facility. Next, they granted scholarship for the students from the low income families and support their families, too. Finally, Jeju people Resident in Japan did help Chejudo culture development such as the culture facilities, physical training facilities and journalism. From the study of these factors, it was revealed that their education development(school establishment, educational facilities support, encouragement of learning support), culture development(culture facilities, physical training facilities, journalism) did help Jeju region develop and its human resources.

본 연구는 재일제주인의 제주도 교육 및 문화 발전에 대한 공헌을 고찰한 것이다. 본 연구의 결과를 종합하면 다음과 같이 요약할 수 있다. 첫째, 재일제주인은 제주도청, 교육청, 시청, 군청 등을 비롯하여 각 읍·면·동 마을에 이르기까지 제주도의 지역개발에 큰 역할을 하였다. 둘째 , 재일제주인은 제주지역의 인재양성을 위해 제주여자학원과 남녕학원 등 학교설립 및 육성에 큰 공헌을 했다. 셋째, 재일제주인은 교육시설에 대해 많은 관심과 지원을 아끼지 않았으며, 교육환경의 개선을 위해 교육지원 활동에도 많은 공헌을 했다. 넷 째, 재일제주인은 가족이나 친척뿐만 아니라 경제적으로 어려운 학생들에게 장학금을 지원하고자 많은 노력을 기울였다. 다섯째, 재일제주인 은 문화, 체육시설, 언론매체 등 문화 발전에 많은 공헌을 했다. 따라서 본 연구는 교육 발전(학교설립, 교육시설, 장학지원 등) 및 문화 발전(문화, 체육시설, 언론매체 등)에 대한 공헌을 통해 제주도의 인재 양성 및 지역발전에 재일제주인의 역할이 크게 작용했다고 볼 수 있다.
