This paper reports on a Japanese language education class that incorporated methods of creative expression described in Gianni Rodari`s “The Grammar of Fantasy” (1973). In this work, Rodari argues that fantasy worlds are created by combining impossible ideas. Based on this argument, I let students devise stories based on (1) impossible combinations of < adjective + noun > (e.g., “sacred demon” and “peaceful war”), (2) combinations of different sensations (e.g., “cold green” and “sweet blue”), and (3) impossible combinations of < subject + predicate > (e.g., “the paper cries” and “the university soars through the sky”). Classes that teach creative expression enable students to acquire special expressions that are not commonly used (metaphor, onomatopoeia, etc.) and are suitable for fostering creative thinking and sensibilities. The aim of this lesson was to develop human resources with rich sensitivity and the ability to use language expressions correctly through a language game that involved word combinations.

本論は、Ｇ·ロダ一リ(1973)『ファンタジ一の文法』を參考に、日本語敎育の現場に、創作表現の方法を取り入れた授業報告書である。ロダ一リは、同書のなかで、ファンタジ一の世界が、ありえない觀念同士の＜組み合わせ＞によって創造されていると說いているが、筆者もまたそうした主張を參考にしながら、①＜形容詞＋名詞＞のありえない組み合わせ(例「聖なる惡魔」、「平和な戰爭」など)や、②＜異なる感覺同士＞の組み合わせ(例「冷たい綠」、「甘い靑」など)、③＜主語＋述語＞のありえない組み合わせ(例「紙が泣く」「大學が空を飛ぶ」など)を學生に考案させ、さらにそれをもとに物語の創作を行った。創作表現の授業は、普段あまり使わない特殊表現(比喩法、オノマトペなど)を習得したり、創造的な思考や感性を育んだりするのに適している。この講義の狙いは、言葉の組み合わせという＜言語ゲ一ム＞を行いつつ、豊かな感受性と正しい言語表現力をもった人材を育成するという所にあるのである。
