It is a challenging task to mix traditional art with advanced technology. It is important to preserve our own tradition, but by using modern technology it is our task to instill the tradition into technology, thus preserving and developing it on a different level. There are several ways to preserve and utilize traditional music, but it is believed that the most idealistic interchange between tradition and modern times is to musically develop more and then to graft the developed skills onto education. I think the future of Korean music education, which is to study Korean music and produce materials and new creations, depends on how many materials and creations are made. Responding to this demand, one possible answer is to make virtual Korean musical instruments by using Korean music. The process of making virtual Korean music instrument is not simple manufacture. It is only possible when one fully understands the history of Korean music and instruments as well as the melodies and rhythms of Korean music. If one does not entirely understand them, one will have a great opportunity to reflect on them through the production of virtual music instruments. The current study explores educational effectiveness and value that can be obtained by developing and producing virtual Korean musical instruments and classifying virtual instruments. The production of virtual instruments, which started at music colleges, is expected to have potential impact on secondary and elementary education. In the near future, I wish some student confesses that he, or she, learns computer music and MIDI through Korean music.

전통예술과 첨단기술의 만남은 항상 어려운 과제다. 우리 고유의 전통을 살리는 것도 중요하지만, 현대 기술을 활용하여 그 전통을 기술 속에 스며들게 하고 보전하고 발전시키는 것이 우리들의 과제다. 전통음악인 국악을 보전하고 활용하는 방법이 여러 가지가 있겠지만, 음악적으로 더 발전시키고 그 발전된 기술을 교육으로 접목시키는 방법이야 말로 가장 이상적인 전통과 현대의 만남이라고 생각한다. 국악을 공부하고 자료를 만들고 새로운 창작물을 만드는 국악교육의 미래는 얼마나 많은 자료와 창작물이 만들어졌느냐에 달려있다고 생각한다. 그러한 요구의 한 가지 제안이 바로 국악을 이용한 가상악기 제작이다. 국악 가상악기의 제작은 단순한 제작이 아닌 국악의 역사를 이해하고 국악기를 파악하며 국악의 선율과 장단을 이해하고 있어야 가능하다고 생각한다. 만일 그것을 이해하고 있지 않더라도 국악 가상악기 제작을 통해 그것을 다시 돌아보는 계기가 되리라 생각한다. 본문에서는 가상악기의 분류와 국악 가상악기를 개발, 제작하면서 얻을 수 있는 교육적 효과와 가치에 대한 생각을 논의하였다. 대학에서 시작된 국악 가상악기의 제작이 중등교육과 초등교육에 미칠 수 있는 영향을 기대해 본다. 가까운 미래에 국악을 통해서 컴퓨터 음악과 미디를 익혔다고 말하는 학생이 나오기를 바란다.
