Although the Revised Curriculum of 2009 focused on developing the ability to understand and enjoy Korean culture, this study identified that the approaches to appreciating Korean music in the music textbooks of middle schools emphasized on explaining about the music and understanding musical elements. In addition, this approaches to be focused on the Curriculum were partly applied to some musics for example, Chwita and Daechwita, Gagok and Yeongsanhoesang, Arirang and Ganggangsulae, and Chongmyojereak. Applying the systematical and proper approaches to appreciating Korean music, this study asserted that the teaching and learning contents based on the cultural aspects need to be developed. Thus, this study selected Yeongsanhoesang of classical scholar music and Chongmyojereak of ceremonial music in the Chosen dynasty, and demonstrated the approaches to understanding and appreciating the musics in the cultural view. Therefore, this study concluded that the approaches to appreciating the characteristics of the musics in the historical and social context should include the teaching and learning contents, for example, the formative age, transition process, musical culture, ideas, enjoyed class, performing style and place, local difference, and cultural value.

2009 개정 교육과정에서는 문화를 이해하고 향유할 수 있는 능력을 강조하고 있다. 하지만 본 연구에 의하면, 중학교 음악교과서에 수록되어 있는 국악 감상곡의 지도내용은 대부분 악곡의 설명과 함께 구성 요소를 이해시키는데 비중을 두고 있다. 분명히 교육과정에서는 국악 감상활동을 할 때, 문화적 맥락에서 음악의 역할과 가치를 이해하도록 강조하였지만, 실제 음악교과서에는 이와 관련된 지도내용이 대취타와 취타, 가곡과 영산회상, 아리랑과 강강술래, 종묘제례악에 국한해서 극히 단편적으로 수록되어 있을 뿐이다. 국악 감상곡을 체계적이고 올바르게 교수․학습하기 위해서는 문화적인 측면에서 이에 적합한 지도내용이 구안될 필요가 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 음악교과서에 비중 있게 수록되어 있는 선비음악 중 영산회상과 의식음악의 하나인 종묘제례악을 선정하여 문화적 맥락에서의 지도내용을 구안하였다. 영산회상과 종묘제례악의 감상에 있어 그 음악의 형성시기와 변천과정․음악문화․사상․향유계층․연주방식․연주장소․지역구분․문화적 가치 등 역사와 사회적 맥락에 따른 교수․학습 내용을 적용할 수 있게 하였다.
