This study aimed to examine the status and problem of garakseon score, notating traditional Korean songs included in 『Music』, Korean middle school textbook, and explore the improvement direction of the notating system. Although the staff notation had the problems to accurately present the melody and sigimsae of traditional Korean songs, it has been employed much more than traditional Korean notation in music textbooks. Thus, since the Revised Music Curriculum of 2007, the approaches to traditional Korean music have been focused on exploring the music terms and notation demonstrating the indigenous characteristics of the music. However, although the Music Curriculum had been revised in 2009 and 『Music』 textbooks rewritten by it, it was identified that the staff notation had been often used to notate traditional Korean music. For this reason, this study was recommended to use the notation system of garakseon to better instruct the melody and sigimsae of traditional Korean songs. Although the score has been difficult to perfectly notate the songs, it has been regarded as very useful and educational score. This study concluded as the followings. First, the editors of music textbooks should review the scores of traditional Korean songs in the books, and examine the melody and sigimsae of the songs. Needed, they should notate the songs by themselves. Second, garakseon score can be useful in the various activities of Korean music education as well as singing activity. Third, since singing traditional Korean songs had been transmitted by rote and additionally by note, the garakseon score of the songs should be applied subsidiarily. Fourth, since the scores of traditional Korean songs in music textbooks have some errors, the following study about better notating the songs will be needed.

본 연구는 중학교 음악교과서에서 국악 가창곡의 가락선 악보 수록 현황 및 문제점을 살펴보고 개선 방향과 활용방안을 모색하는 데 목적을 두었다. 국악 가창곡의 오선보 기보는 가락과 시김새와 같은 국악의 요소를 표현하는 데 한계점이 있고, 실제 음악과 맞지 않음에도 압도적인 우위를 차지하고 있다. 따라서 2007년 개정 음악과 교육과정부터 국악의 고유한 특징을 살릴 수 있는 국악용어와 기보법이 강조되어 왔다. 그러나 2009 개정 교육과정에 따른 음악과 교육과정에 따른 음악교과서가 바뀌었음에도 여전히 오선 악보위주로 수록되어 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 가락선 악보는 가락의 흐름과 시김새 등의 우리 음악의 특징을 이해하기 쉽기 때문에 ‘교육용 악보’로 활용도가 높다고 볼 수 있다. 그러므로 우리 음악을 담기에 한계가 있는 오선보보다는 가락의 흐름을 표현할수 있는 가락선 악보가 적합하리라 생각한다. 따라서 다음과 같이 제언하고자 한다. 첫째, 음악교과서의 저자들은 국악가창곡 음원의 시김새나 가락이 잘 기보되었는지 검토 과정을 반드시 거쳐야 한다. 필요한 경우 직접 채보를 해야 한다. 둘째, 가락선 악보는 가창 활동뿐만 아니라 국악학습에 다양한 영역에서 활용되도록 한다. 셋째, 사실 가창교육은 ‘듣고 부르기’가 주된 활동이 되어야 하며 악보는 보조적으로 사용하여야 한다. 넷째, 음악교과서의 국악가창곡 가락선 악보에 보이는 가락과 시김새 표기상의 많은 오류들은 꾸준한 논의를 통해 수정될 필요가 있으며, 음고의 표기나 음색의 표현법 등에 대한 기보체계도 일관성 있게 마련될 필요가 있을 것이다. 앞으로 이에 대한 다양한 연구가 이루어져야 한다.
