In this research, to realize the value of jangdan education, I paid attention to the changes in education environment after the 7th curriculum and developed discussions for future improvement. I also contemplated precedent jangdan related studies in Gugak education, reviewed trends and problems represented by the discussions on free[脫]-western music viewpoint and free[脫]-goyhung education and suggested future research directions. In its early stage, the nature of Gugak was not studied because of a comprehensive (non-Gugak-specific) curriculum which appeared to be dependent on Western-centric musical interpretation and approach. Research on Jangdan education mainly dealt with it as a supplemental concept biased by the Gohyong-theory[鼓型論]. There has been gradual improvement in jangdan education because of a number of studies which have pointed out problems within the educational environment. In review, the topics of the studies are discussed in relationship to studies which have influenced concepts and components of Jangdan in the curriculum and from the Western music viewpoint. These are studies on hierarchy in the components of Jangdan, musical analysis and discussions supporting quality improvement in the education of Gugak. Studies on vocal music-centric lyrics and notation, interests in the value of experience jangdan by expansion of materials related research. The following are key directions to be examined as suggested in this study. First, breaking away from the existing viewpoint and development of a unique approach are required. Second, systemization of a comprehensive Jangdan concept and its components in curriculum is needed. Third, discussion for establishing a hierarchy in Jangdan education is needed. Fourth, discussion on musical analysis and comprehensive Jangdan education is needed. Fifth, in-depth discussion on the relationship of lyrics and unification of notation structure is needed. Sixth, discussions on various materials development for more effective jangdan education is needed. I hope that education specialists and researchers recognize the importance of jangdan amongst the various components from the correct viewpoint of gugak education and its contribution to the development of gugak education by researching various and more essential topics and approaches. I also hope this small study will contribute to the development of gugak education.

본 연구에서는 장단교육의 가치를 인식하고자 제7차 교육과정 이후 교육환경의 변화에 주목하고 향후 발전을 위한 논의를 전개하였다. 지금까지의 국악 교육학의 장단관련 선행연구를 주제별로 고찰하여 탈서양리듬 관점의 논의와 탈고형 교육 논의로 대표되는 경향 및 문제점을 살펴보고, 향후 연구방향을 제시하였다. 초기 연구의 경향으로는 포괄적 영역의 관점에서 구성된 교육과정으로 인하여 국악의 본질적 연구가 이루어지지 못하고 서양음악식 해석과 방법론에 의존하는 경향이 강했으며, 장단교육 연구에서 반주 개념의 고형론에 편중되어 주로 다루어왔다. 점차 이러한 교육환경에 문제를 적시한 연구가 등장함에 따라 점차 장단교육의 다양한 개선이 이루어졌다. 논의의 주제를 살펴보면, 교육과정의 장단의 개념과 구성요소의 수립에 영항을 끼친 연구성과와 그에 따른 서양음악의 관점에 의한 논의, 장단요소의 위계성, 악곡분석 및 장단지도 등이 연구의 중심을 이루면서 국악교육의 질적 제고를 뒷받침하였으며 성악곡 중심의 노랫말과의 연관성 및 기보법, 제재곡 확대를 통한 장단을 경험하는 가치에 대한 관심 또한 장단관련 연구의 깊이를 더했다. 장단교육에 관련하여 본고에서 고찰, 제시한 연구방향의 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기존 관점의 탈피, 고유한 방법론의 개발이 시급하다. 둘째, 교육과정의 포괄적 장단 개념 및 구성요소의 체계화에 대한 모색이 필요하다. 셋째, 장단교육의 위계성 구축을 위한 논의가 필요하다. 넷째, 악곡분석 및 포괄적 장단지도를 위한 논의가 요구된다. 다섯째, 노랫말과의 연관성, 기보법 구조의 통일에 대한 심층적 논의가 요구된다. 여섯째, 효과적인 장단교육을 위한 다양한 제재곡 개발의 논의가 필요하다. 앞으로 교육전문가와 연구자들이 국악 요소 중 장단에 대한 중요성을 인식하고, 더욱 다양하고 본질적인 연구 방법과 주제를 바탕으로 한 연구를 진행함으로써 국악교육이 한 단계 더 발전하기를 기대한다.
